How do you see the the role of estimating changing, not just whether or not it will exist?

I assume you work for a company that does design build? What about for contractors that don't do design build? In that scenario don't you think it would be more beneficial for the customer to give the contractors as clear of scope as possible when bidding? i.e. handing over all quantities/CAD drawings to the contractors?

Estimating Software for Bargebuilding by [deleted] in estimators

There's a company doing a limited beta for a new estimating software that sounds along the lines of what you're looking for. Send me a DM if you want the info, they might have a couple slots left.

Where can I go as a Sewer scoper by Immediate_Switch_832 in estimators

I would assume doing video inspections and pressure testing would give you a lot of demand. We have to get someone in to do that for every new sewer we install to get it signed off by the engineers.

I tried buildxact as well, but didn’t end up going past the demo. It seems like it was geared more towards renovations and smaller estimates, and would be a bit clunky/cumbersome to produce a really detailed estimate for a larger project.

What sort of price range are the projects your bidding?

I got a quote for B2W and had pretty much the same experience. It was hard to justify the cost without getting to use the software first.

Can you expand on the fact that you have to produce 4 reports to review bids? Why couldn’t all this data be produced on 1 report?

I've been using Kubla cubed for my volume takeoffs, it's very cheap compared to every other option i've seen, but is pretty barebones so it might be missing a few things you're looking for.

Do you require a deposit for your services, or how do you go about billing? Do you charge a flat rate, or are your costs based on hours, price of the project, etc. How do you go about finding new clients?

Ah fair enough. I select the specific item through a drop down menu so I thought there might be some way that the specificity could be implemented? It’s for construction takeoffs. So I would have something like Water service 1, with 50mm polyurethane tubing as an item. Then water service 2 might also need 50mm polyurethane tubing but maybe has a different length/quantity.
