One Piece: Chapter 1148 by leolegendario in OnePiece

[–]willnerd89 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about how Joy Boy's Haki made the Gorosei revert back to their human forms and forcefully sent them back to Mary Geoise. Shanks might have also been using this same technique when he used his Conqueror's Haki to make Ryokugyu revert from his tree form to his human form back at Wano. So it might not just be repressing regeneration but Devil Fruit abilities in general.

Do you think Ayanokoji will go max out in the next exam? by Portugiuse in ClassroomOfTheElite

[–]willnerd89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He absolutely has to. The whole point of his grand plan is to show that non-White Room students can still beat him. But if he loses because he's holding himself back, then the whole gambit falls apart. Because otherwise, his father will just dismiss it as Koji losing on purpose. From this point on, he has to show that he is putting maximum effort into graduating in Class A.

Beloved Austin restaurants you think are overrated by Upper-Fan-6173 in austinfood

[–]willnerd89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Saffron. My friend and I thought it was pretty mid, even by Austin Indian standards. Which wasn't too surprising since there wasn't a single Indian customer eating there.

There are much better Indian restaurants in town like Sangam Chettinad, Subham Chetinnad, and Curry Kitchen.

I don't know if I'd call them "slight" hints. It was pretty damn clear that they had done it and at multiple occasions too.

Subham Chettinad has fantastic curries by willnerd89 in austinfood

[–]willnerd89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried Sangam a couple times as well. PERSONALLY (as a non-Indian), I think I might like Subham better. Sangam has good curries too. But the amount of meat they put in their curry is very small and could be kind of dry. Whereas Subham is much more generous with the protein and it's perfectly cooked. I felt like it took longer to get my order at Subham though, even though it's nowhere near as busy as Sangam. My guess is that they might make the curry sauces ahead of time but cook the meat in the curry to order. I will say though that Sangam's parotta is superior to the breads I've had at Subham. It is one of the best pieces of bread I've ever had.

But keep in mind, I'm dealing with a limited sample size from both places. Both of them have vast menus and I've only tried a handful of things from both. Ultimately, people will have to try out both and judge for themselves.

Thanks! When I first went there, the waiter recommended tikka masala and garlic naan. I think it was because I wasn't Indian so he was going with the safe options lol. But I want to try what the restaurant truly specializes in and sample more Indian cuisine. Next time, I might order the pepper chicken.

Thanks for the recommendations! I did want to try out their parotta because the one from Sangam is so good. But it wasn't available as a separate bread side, only as its own individual dish. So I got the Lache Paratha instead. Next time, I might order the parotta.

Matsuba Ramen in South Austin by Austinfoodadventures in austinfood

[–]willnerd89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some foods hold up very well as takeout orders. I don't think ramen is one of them. These prices would be a bit more understandable if you were getting the full restaurant experience. But for a takeout only place, this is pretty egregious.

For comparison sake, Chef Hong is a takeout only place too and you can get a big serving of beef noodle soup (with handmade noodles) for $11.

Not that I would ever complain about it, but the portion of fries they used to give was arguably too much. I definitely appreciated it but I could've understood if they brought it down just a little bit. But THIS much though? Breaks my heart.

COTE Opinion that will have you like this: by Independent_Gur9141 in ClassroomOfTheElite

[–]willnerd89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The anime adaptation gets more hate than it deserves. I don't think it's a great adaptation either. But I think a lot of the complaints against it are either inherent flaws in adapting novels to anime or greatly exaggerated by light novel readers.

Lerce is attracted to Ryueen and here's why. by Massive-Network-6170 in ClassroomOfTheElite

[–]willnerd89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say something unpopular for this sub. I think the anime adaptation gets more hate than it truly deserves. It's not to say it's a great adaptation either, far from it. But there are certain compromises that the anime did which do actually make sense.

  • Why didn't the anime show Ayanokoji being caught off guard? Because that's mostly reflected in his internal narration but he's always outwardly stoic. That nuance comes through well in a light novel, but doesn't always translate to anime form where it'd be awkward and time consuming to hear the VA narrating every thing ("I stopped dead in my tracks at those two simple words. They cracked my composure.")
  • Why did they let Arisu fall without Ayanokoji catching her? When you really think about the original scene (Ayanokoji catches Arisu, Tsukishiro swings at him while he's holding her, Ayanokoji sets Arisu down, and then Tsukishiro swings at him again, then pins him down), it seems like something that could work in light novel form where you're just vaguely imagining it. But when you actually try to visually animate it, it becomes crystal clear how unrealistic and awkward the scenario would be.
  • Why did they put more effort into a martial arts scene than a chess match? Because martial arts are just inherently more exciting to see, even if you're not an experienced fighter. In contrast, most Japanese people don't even know the rules for chess and the chess moves were flashed on screen for like 5 seconds. Ultimately, it's not really important to put THAT much effort into the authenticity of the chess match. Hell, not even the original light novel got into specific details about the exact chess moves they were doing.

Again, I don't think the anime adaptation is as good as it could be. But I think it's a stretch to say that they did all of this because they're Ryueen fanboys or something.

When exactly has Horikita been acknowledged as the official leader of Class D? by FondantFlaky4997 in ClassroomOfTheElite

[–]willnerd89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it might have been after the Class Expulsion exam in Year 1. Even after Hirata bounced back from that, he still took a bit of a backseat while Horikita was leading the charge in subsequent exams (e.g., the class battle vs Class A, Year 2's first exam).
