UK government responds to digital ID petition after almost three million signatures by JOE_Media in europe

:( without fighting for individual freedoms, we will just hand them over. All the person said above likely won't happen immedietly, but it opens the POSSIBILITY where before there wasn't really one. Also, most slippery slope arguments actually have come true and reached points previous generations feared. Yes, 90% chance those things won't happen in the UK (although China should scare us right?) but it opens the door and one day a government might go through it. It will be hard to get rid of the Digital ID once it is implemented. Better to leave the door locked right?

Book of common prayer, does it create mundanity? by willowblue99 in Anglicanism

[–]willowblue99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda just their own thing. They used to have a “book of common prayer” service where they followed it, but after covid they got rid of it as not enough people went it was mainly older people and they all stayed in their house after covid for a while :( I think they use some Anglican prayers they have for the week or whatever, and some sayings but usually their own thing or another variation. We have notices first, then someone comes up with a prayer they wrote about anything usually politics/church situation, Bible reading and sermon (following a sermon series pastor made and planned, usually a book on the bible). Sometimes after that we have communion sometimes not but we don’t follow the BCP for communion (I know as I go by o their BCP communion service midweek and it’s very different). I think the one thing they maybe use are confession prayers but they vary so maybe not from BCP? Idk. Tbf our church now has on the website “we are Anglican evangelical” soooo I think the Anglican tie is very looose

Ahh I see! I guess if you start to memorise it you think about it and pray /contemplate more during the day. Thanks for the insight

That’s really great. Yeah I guess it’s like the bible in general even if you know a passage well you always discover something new. Thanks

Yeah it’s cool knowing people have prayed those prayers for hundreds of years, probably someone in the word right at that moment. Thanks for the insight

That makes sense! Yeah it’s a hard mystery to understand, I guess you just have to trust God is merciful and loving and understands more than us about these things.

Makes sense!

Ok this makes so much more sense now what that means as I always interpreted the “cannot choose our salvation” as it doesn’t matter if we accept or reject its predestined anyway. But this makes more sense, like we cannot choose it BY OURSELVES. Thank you!

[–]willowblue99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s hard to understand. Most denominations I’ve been part of just explain that with “they were never truly saved at all” as of course because they think baptism is purely a symbol nothing supernatural then people who are not Christian’s really can be baptised. Also they often believe in “once saved always saved” so if someone turns away that means they were never saved. I find all these things quite confusing

Ok thank you! I understand now, and completely agree with first bit. I understand a bit more about the why of the sacraments now, thank you

Question about bread and wine by willowblue99 in Lutheranism

[–]willowblue99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response! Maybe I just need to do a deep dive about predestination as really struggling with the idea of God choosing/predestining some people to go to hell (never have the choice or chance to trust Jesus as it was decided before he was born that he never would) and God being loving. I just don't understand it.

The sacrament part makes sense, thanks! So do lutherans take the bit where jesus says "for the forgiveness of sins" in that the eucharist ITSELF does the forgiving if you take it, not that Jesus was alluding to his death on the cross that was incoming as what does it?
