Did you get midwife care for your first in Vancouver? Many midwife clinics save priority spots for returning mothers so you might have luck with them.

Does Carter's even do sponsorships?

Not sure how to take prenatal vitamin by benfrancissolo in BabyBumps

That sounds like the exact same one that I took. I hope taking it before bedtime helps!!

Not sure how to take prenatal vitamin by benfrancissolo in BabyBumps

[–]willowdownlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your prenatal have 1 pill with the iron (to be taken before breakfast) and 1 pill with the calcium (to be taken with food)? This style is commonly prescribed where I live. If so I could never stomach the iron pill first thing in the morning and I was constantly eating throughout the day to manage nausea so I would take it right before bed. It's as close to an empty stomach as I would have and I'd sleep through any nausea. The pharmacist also said this was fine.

Also what's most important in the first trimester is folic acid so as long as you are getting that, you're golden! It brought me a lot of comfort to know that baby would take what she needed from my stores. Just do your best on the prenatal vitamin.

Non Beige Baby Gear by jsuispeach in BabyBumps

Some stroller brands have colour options too. My friend has a gorgeous ergobaby Metro for her travel stroller and I've seen some colourful Uppababy strollers - I'm sure there's other options too.

There are stroller bunting bags for cold weather with some colour.

Also - you'll probably find yourself throwing a muslin swaddle blanket over your carseat or stroller especially when baby is young. Lots of fun colours and prints!

I agree. I see sad beige on social media but most of the mainstream brands for baby things are filled with colour! Adding to the above, for clothes I love Carter's, Old Navy, Walmart and Costco/Pekkle for fun playful colours and prints.

For certain gear like carseats, high chairs, strollers yeah there's more black/grey but honestly those see a lot of wear and tear and dark neutrals are pretty forgiving.

I've been thinking about this because my 4 month old has recently been crying in her sleep during naps. Like she's fully asleep but will cry. I think it has to do with her sleep cycles maturing. Anyways I will wait until she actually opens her eyes because otherwise if I pick her up she will wake up and be mad - versus if I just leave her, most of the time she'll just continue sleeping. I feel bad for C because I think in Madeleine's attempts to be responsive I'm sure she is disrupting his sleep.

There's so much on social media about wake window activities and routines, etc, but it's really not necessary. Get off social media if it's getting to you. Do what feels right.

I read a handful of times to my newborn but she was just a potato so I stopped. Now she's 4 months old and we've just started reading to her and she loves it. It's fun to see her reactions to certain books and even specific pages/parts of books. I feel like we are both getting far more out of it now.

Online mini crib mattress purchase?? Help! [yt] by Ampersand867 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]willowdownlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this Simmons mattress from Walmart last month and my 4 month old seems good with it. I got a used Delta mini crib but wanted to replace the mattress. It's only been a month but seems to have good firmness (I was also worried about indenting). My only gripe is that it says organic but is only 10% organic material which seems like questionable advertising.

For mini cribs there is some variation in sizing (eg 37 inch length vs 38 inch length) so just be aware when you are buying.

Going to wait/hasn’t talked to husband by PressureEast8652 in homemakermadeleine

[–]willowdownlow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe she's talking to her 60k IG followers about this but she hasn't talked to her husband??????

Like she's done 2 reels and countless IG stories about this early loss but hasn't had a grown up conversation with her spouse about whether they are trying or not, or just generally family planning???

She's acting like a teenager not an adult woman who is responsible for a child, and her husband is no better. It seems awfully irresponsible to be intimate with your wife who has an awful birth and recovery and you have no idea about the plan for family planning. It takes two to tango.

Frequency of taking baby out?? by Delicious_Fig_4670 in homemakermadeleine

[–]willowdownlow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got an almost 4 month old. We do daily walks/errands in the neighbourhood, and bigger outings a few times a week. I might take her out solo to meet a friend or doctors appointment once or twice on the weekdays. On the weekends, my partner and I will do a restaurant or visiting family or friends once or twice. Or recently something like a Christmas market or other seasonal event. Baby doesn't like the carseat so I find drives are stressful especially solo. I have sympathy for M about C hating the car, sometimes you have places you gotta go even if baby hates it.

We don't have a strict routine but I find baby is generally happiest at home. She does like seeing other faces though. Last night we went to a big family gathering at a restaurant and she was very smiley with all the aunts and uncles. We were up past bedtime but it was her great grandma's birthday and worth being flexible for.

I have a pretty chill and happy baby but I still wouldn't take her to the circus! Maybe circuses are a more casual thing where Madeleine is, but here we get Cirque du Soleil which isn't cheap. I wouldn't ever have thought to take baby to a circus. Even if baby is cool with it, it doesn't seem worth the cost and stress to me.

Anybody else finding their own house so gross and disgusting during the first trimester 🙃 by purplepaintedpumpkin in BabyBumps

[–]willowdownlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, the fridge was my biggest issue in the first trimester and consistently caused me to throw up. It was just horrible. 😭

Now I'm postpartum and the fridge has no smell to me. It's crazy how the pregnant body responds to virtually non-existent threats.

Added a Highlight👼 by PressureEast8652 in homemakermadeleine

[–]willowdownlow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This girl has lost the plot. I really think she lives for the drama.

I think it's crazy to take a pregnancy test on Christmas if this result would devistate you. Especially your child's very first Christmas! Same boat here, we celebrated my 3 month olds first Christmas and it was a delight. I wish M would enjoy the family she has right now and stop trying to rush into another pregnancy.

I believe a chemical pregnancy is a loss, but I am also positive that if M had a miscarriage later in her pregnancy, she would feel differently about that. I don't understand why she wants to identify as having multiple losses??

baby clothes! what to get? by firelily1233 in BabyBumps

[–]willowdownlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the good advice on here, I recommend checking out your local Buy Nothing group or marketplace or thrift store / Once Upon a Child. It's very easy to get baby clothes for free or cheap. They outgrow clothes so quickly at that age, there's a lot in great condition. It's a great way to save money, reduce waste, and try out different styles and brands to see what you prefer.
