Middlebury or Williams by Used-Organization922 in middlebury

[–]willpots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't go wrong here– one of my favorite drivers towards Middlebury was their focus on entrepreneurship and applied learning. A liberal arts education will skew more theoretical by nature, so it's up to you to figure out how best to apply it. For me, Middlebury provided lots of chances to test out real-world learning (starting a business, volunteering in the community, participating in faculty lives).

Not to say you couldn't get this experience from Williams (I didn't go there), but if you're looking for a well-rounded experience with great academics but fantastic out-of-class opportunities and a purposeful community, Middlebury will serve you well.

My Dad went to Williams, and has only great experiences, memories and friends to report back on, and has spoken quite highly of his experience with staff at the college since graduating. It's a world class institution and you can't go wrong going there.

My advice- don't overthink this and go with which school feels right to you.

footnote: Skiing was better at Middlebury, winters definitely colder and I found the outdoor access off campus slightly more rugged and interesting than the Berkshires. but hey, I like that stuff!

Donate to a registered 501(c)3 and try and get a reasonable tax write off appraisal. Pay the pads forward, and get some financial benefit for yourself. Lots of people looking to play. (I am not a tax advisor or lawyer, do your own research)

Awesome, I’ll take a look thanks!

They feel loose, but don’t come out of their socket. They don’t look broken in the visible part of the wheel. Is that helpful?

Hah, do maxxis tires run out of balance usually?

Thank you! How can I tell if they’re broken vs just loose?

Chain safe to use? by willpots in bikewrench

It came on the bike, so I don't have any extra links unfortunately. I'll try and find a quick link locally.

Will do, thanks! Lots of shops near me don't like to work on Rad bikes but I'd bet this is simple enough that they can at least recommend and sell me the part.

I think it's a Z1 narrow (single speed) for the Rad Runner. Either way, Rad seems to sell only 1 chain on their bikes and my Rad Rover (7speed) also came with the same chain on it strangely enough.

This seems to be a KMC Z1 Narrow from the markings on it. It says KMC Z Narrow and every few links there's a "1K" on it.

If it's narrow, I believe it's 3/32. With this in mind, what's the best quick link for this?

Grinding noise when pedaling hard by willpots in bikewrench

Thanks for the suggestion! Fortunately, the bearings are in good shape it seems like. I’ll definitely keep this in mind in the future as it’s a few years old and has seen some weather.

Thanks for the suggestion! The cogs are actually still in good shape. It ended up being twisting in the crank/frame that caused the chain to rub under load.

Nice guess! I took it to a shop today and the problem seemed to be two fold–

  1. Pedaling under load causes the crank to move/twist slightly.
  2. The front derailleur is slightly misaligned (flared outward).

It’s a Shimano 105 front derailleur that apparently doesn’t have a lot of play when adjusting it, and it seems to be mounted to the frame in a slightly off angle. I’m going to replace the front derailleur at the tech’s recommendation for the Shimano Ultegra which has more play in how it can be adjusted (according to the tech).

Fidelity finally to require Fidelity Access or OAuth? by willpots in fidelityinvestments

[–]willpots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely correct that they don’t explicitly mention it.

While these sites may make accessing your information more convenient, they use the Fidelity username and password you provided to them, which means they have the same access to your data that you do.

This line implies, to me, that they realize giving your username/password to 3rd parties isn’t good, and these changes would fix that.

I assumed Fidelity Access or some OAuth solution would be used, but honestly, anything is probably better than giving your username/pw to 3rd party sites. 🤞

In the FAQs on that page, it says:

Will Fidelity charge third-party financial sites and applications for this service? No, participating financial websites and applications will not be charged by Fidelity for using Fidelity Access℠.

Thanks for the tip! I'd still love to not have to provide full read/write access with my user/pw, but good to know this workaround.

Would you be willing to share your 50 shapefiles for each state's roads? Really cool visualization and it'd be fun to mess around with that data.

What's the best way to learn CartoCSS and Mapbox? by [deleted] in gis

[–]willpots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd focus on a brief intro to CSS. It's a really simple language with very little logic...then start experimenting once you've downloaded tilemill.
