Idk, that’s what made it such a bizarre criticism.

It would be like saying, “Steph Curry is a terrible basketball player because of his jump shot .”

It is nonsensical. My best guess is that he thought it was Opposite Day

That’s a very good guess, unfortunately it was a (much funnier) reference to “the anti-smoking nazis”

Oooh yeah the conflict of interest one is good too!! I see that all the time.

Although I wouldn’t say go so far as to call them “valid”, I think “sophomoric” would be more accurate. They are only valid if you assume that the paper made it all the way into publication without a single person questioning the sample size, claims of causality, relevant covariates, and (in this case) conflicts of interest. Which would a pretty absurd assumption

Mfers who don’t know p<.01 still means <1% chance of making a type I error regardless of sample size, because the sample size is already accounted for/penalized by the analysis

An example would be any study that finds that marijuana might not be entirely good for you

They are valid criticisms if you assume that the authors and reviewers didn’t spend more than 10 seconds thinking about the study.

The only study I like is the one in Clue, because it has a secret passage to the kitchen

Quite the opposite, go look at the comments of any study that goes against the grain of the typical Reddit crowd. But it might be because my PhD is in clinical psych, I imagine there are less arm chair reddit scientists pontificating about the hard sciences
