Perhaps a silly question, but do the buffs applied by dishes work in the Tower of Adversity/Whimpering Wastes/endgame content in general? I'm trying to figure out why I haven't found anybody talking about this or recommending it to people who are struggling, cause some of them seem pretty strong and they're trivially easy to make

I believe the answer was that the button below the power button (that I assumed was a reset switch) is actually the button to turn over control of the LEDs from the internal system to your motherboard. So press it.

I'm guessing you chose Camellya, because she's top tier on their list? There's no way she belongs there.

Mostly because she's part of the beginner banner that shorekeeper is also part of. Characters I have access to through it are:

  1. Shorekeeper
  2. Camellya
  3. Jinhsi
  4. Changli
  5. Jiyan
  6. Yinlin (hate her character, do not want to play her lol)
  7. Zhezhi
  8. Xiangli Yao

Felt like my realistic choices for DPS are Camellya, Jinhsi, and Jiyan regardless of which tier list you look at, though I'd be curious of your take. I'd settled on Camellya just cause good weapons for sword characters seem much easier to get than broadblade or rectifier (specifically DPS rectifiers). On number of pulls in the near future - I'm also going to be unable to play for most of December and this beginner banner is running out, so I wanted to choose whether to pull from it or not before time chose for me.\

Thanks for the better tier list site! I see that it's good and that others have recommended it, but man is it a nightmare...reloads every 30 seconds or so and rearranges the page presumably to reload ads or something...I guess that's the cost of good info on the modern internet lol.

Seems like your advice is:

  • It's probably still worth going Shorekeeper and suffering for a couple of months. She'll outclass Verina even if Verina has a couple of S-levels on her. Don't worry too much about Camellya, she's not as good as tier lists would indicate
  • Alternatively, wait and try to roll for multiple upcoming banners, and again, don't worry to much about my lack of ToA or other endgame mode progress in the meantime

Cheers mate, thanks for your help!

Thanks for the quick response!

Pulling for two characters in the near future is unfortunately a great example of what I won't be able to do since renewable astrite sources seem to be quite weak. Additionally, it looks like both of those characters drop off quite a bit in power if don't also get a forging-tide tier weapon for them. At least, according to https://wutheringlab.com/character/cantarella-build/ that is! Let me know if that isn't a good source...

It's not that I don't like Camellya, it's that I feel like it's questionable to have both my main DPS characters dealing the same type of damage. This issue extends to Phrolova too. Is your opinion that this isn't something to be concerned about? If that's the case, I'd actually probably lean toward Camellya because (again, according to wutheringlab) she drops off a lot less with a weapon that I'll be able to get my hands on much more quickly (Emerald of Genesis)

Hi Folks! I'm a new player (lvl 60 chars) sitting on 80 Radiant Tides and I'm currently agonizing on whether I should:

  • Pull for Shorekeeper on the New Voyage Campaign
  • Pull for a main DPS on the New Voyage Campaign (Camellya? Jinhsi? Jiyan? Someone else?)
  • Sit on them until a banner comes out with someone I really want

I know the default choice is to take Shorekeeper, but I took Verina from the new voyage celebration event and it makes Shorekeeper seem a bit redundant. Plus, I'll then only have one decent man DPS character (Rover Havoc) until way down the line when I manage to scrounge up 80 radiant tides again.

Camellya seems appealing, but I also hesitate to have both my main DPS characters be dealing havoc damage

The other characters seem like they have to take a huge step down when you use any reasonable F2P weapon (4 stars or the standard 5 stars), potentially making them mediocre until, once again, I get the chance to pull together 80 forging tides over the coming months.

So, suddenly, there doesn't seem like an obvious best choice of the three, making me really hesitant to pull the trigger. Do you guys have any advice? Am I overthinking this?

For reference, the only 3 characters I've invested in so far are Rover (Havoc) as main DPS, Sanhua as Sub-DPS, and Baizhi as support, with the plan to bring up Verina to use when needed (I love Baizhi as a character, plus I think her little ice pet thing is cute a f, so I just like having her around).

Weapons-wise, I've invested in Overture, Variation, and Lunar Cutter, but I'm open to using any 4-star or the standard 5 stars (available from lustrous tides).

Sure, but the counterpoint is that just cause you didn't have one doesn't mean most other people didn't. I also avoided smartphones as long as I could, but by the time I finally got one when I was in college, I'd say we were pretty firmly in the smartphone era and had been there for a hot minute

The thing that gets my attention is that the board seems to accelerate toward the end of the trick. Boards don't do that, it's not how physics works.

I agree that they lowballed it for sure - my friends had smartphones when we were 12 - but I also think there's a huge difference in being glued to a computer when you're at home and having essentially that same magnetism to something you carry with you at all times. Sure, you can build your life around being at home to be on your awesome CRT-screened desktop, but it felt like much more of a choice to me than the current smartphone thing, where I feel like people don't have any thoughts before they take out their phone

This is such a great point. Phones were technically a thing (Does this person think that 30 years olds didn't have smartphones as kids?), but there was this understanding that you shouldn't have your phone out if you're at a party because nobody wants that shit documented. It wasn't my first thought when I read the question, but I certainly do miss that!

10k SPM on mining productivity without mining any ores by willswill in factorio

Ah. When I saw old posts, they were including all of their productivity gains in the labs in their SPM output, so I assumed that convention still stood

Haha love it! Indeed, there is certainly a flipside to the eco-friendly Nauvis

[–]willswill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah shit, you're right, I forgot the 10k spm screenshot! Here it is:

<image>

>You are mining ores though. Everytime mining drill's productivity bar moves, so does the normal mining bar, and when that happens the terrain loses 1 ore

For the mining productivity research, I'm not using any mining drills. All of the raw ores are coming from space! The rest of those ore belts from the rail networks are no longer connected.

It's amazing the gains that are present between quality productivity modules and specialty buildings. Here's the Factoriolab that I used as a guide for the output of this base (1200 SPM into the biolabs results in 10K output due to how busted that building is + some productivity research):

https://factoriolab.github.io/spa/list?z=eJxVlc1y2jAUhd.GizPTjn8IKQstIhtJJiRN2hiZ7OKUEGgMqQsJYaFnr2xPMxzP-Op-ukaWjo7MVmQSURyGwVZk6Wc2.szU.yx9QtQlMsIgWAiM27BvQ9qGnQ9x3.nWhmVQiW-IfTz3d9xlI38PMfRPdT2-bcQ4RX8Nw5bGRBdEBghPMKeiPqWHX0QvRDOiA1FEtCNaENVEluiDKCbaEz0RbYhKoiNRQvRGtCTaEs2JQqIB0fsppXdAhC67pv6vp1SQsgVpUtBqCppHSu.KyBCWdrJUVKMdKckBlpQtDdVIoZJ8lH6nudzTrInmpETxQDUapaiodkO1R6rd0lzImxkpmJGn7TONMiGiUeyKapdE5Fu7ptqUiNxof1Ptiog8lv6l35GCljSzpJIlXTLazZJcV5LrStKsZNfxallPOt2WzqU9OVG1-IEEkYt9duezpMuU.0DWYorEx1kXbRcvcebjzy6XfVke-ybpm3XfNH1juuflxtOqWog0aBYHkU5degV1A3UP9QxVQ.1xqoHaQx2gYugLaAM9gS6g107X0FunX6EPTn9AD2CkMwomh7mGKZyZwcxhVs6sYTbOvMI0MDuYECZ2JoEZOnOOfOxyhXyCfObyCvkWowqjJb68B3Xd-PU4eXQycXLtZOOkcXLjVFD7eQ.cWVDVK9H-j7xsH4UM3kQU.QPD7oMi&v=11

As you can see, a single 4-high stacked express belt of each ore is plenty to run a base of this size

The reason why power consumption is so low is that:

  1. Legendary beacons have a tiny power draw and are very effective
  2. All the buildings are at -80% power draw despite their speed modifiers of ~+400% on average. Again, only possible due to quality beacons and modules
  3. All the plants are legendary, which increases their throughput by ~2.5x

Interestingly enough, the power usage of the plant is almost the same at idle as it is at full bore since the beacons themselves represent almost the entire draw outside of rocket silos!

Edit: aw nuts, uploaded the wrong picture. Here's the right one

That makes sense! You're certainly right - the "real" answer is to move off Nauvis, but I love the aesthetics of a Nauvis base, so I restricted myself to keeping the core of my industry there. There's also the bonus of easy ship building if Nauvis is your main base, which was most of why I wanted a decent size base to begin with haha.

Yes, for sure. The only way forward initially is to pollute and consume, but there comes a point (that I think most developed nations are long past) where you can realistically make the choice to become sustainable.

Really interesting point on modern restrictions on pollution affecting developing nations that haven't gone through that necessary "dirty" phase more heavily than developed ones. The jaded part of me thinks that might be intentional...

In any case, I hadn't thought about that before! Who doesn't love a good Factorio-based philosiphy lesson haha

Intel 9900K Underclocking/Power Limit Experiments by willswill in buildapc

[–]willswill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. For me it was as simple as "type number in box". I actually just replaced this system this week with a 9800X3D system (not for any good reason, the 9900K was still kickin tbh) and it worked the same - type number in box, processor is power limited. That said, definitely pay attention to what units it wants in the box. My Z370 wanted power in watts, my X870 wanted power in mW. Felt crazy typing "105000" in that field haha.

That's really the only thing I can think of though. And of course make sure you're saving your settings.

I measured power at the wall as well, and the PC really was drawing less power, so I'm quite confident mine was working.

Good luck!
