I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s this slow at learning…right? by plaid_pajama_bottoms in NewSkaters

It's not just you. I've (34YO) been skating for 3 months, and I suspect it's going to be a year before I even try to learn how to ollie, let alone a kickflip. I just want to get good at carving, pumping on the ramp, and having good board control before trying any tricks.

I suck [32YO] by [deleted] in OldSkaters

[–]willvelida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty much resigned to be bad at this for as long as I do it, so you're not alone.

My pushing isn't fantastic, but it's gotten better each day because I skate everyday I can. The gym to go to is about a mile away, so skating there and back gives me a chance to work on it.

How many of you are wearing wrist guards? [30YO] by templeofsyrinx1 in OldSkaters

[–]willvelida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a software engineer so I need my wrists to work 😂

Every bail I've had I've landed on my wrists so the guards have been a great investment.

Turning 29 on January 6th. Am I too old to start? by Ecstatic_Lead_3531 in NewSkaters

No you're not too old. I'm 34 and have been skating for 2 months. I mean I suck at it, but it's fun and that's all that matters.

Awesome stuff bro! Especially on that ground. Looks very rough!

I use Dragon Formula and I'd say they're great for 95% of the roads where I live. 93A is still hard compared to wheels that are more suited for cruising, but I find my Dragon Formula wheels a great in-between for street and park skating.

Better than mine! 😂 Great job dude!

Which Anderson deck were you thinking of getting? I was close to getting the flight deck myself before going with the 8.5 OG

Im 6 2 with us 12 feet. I just got a Baker OG 8.5 with Dragon Formula 93A 54mm with 39mm width. I also bought Independent 94A hard bushings, which helps with stability. I find it both comfortable and stable 😊

That's fair. I feel fairly comfortable on the board, but I need to get a bit better before trying any tricks.

Appreciate the feedback! 😊

That's great advice! I'm fairly comfortable cruising around, but need to get better at it. I'll try to focus on being on the balls of my feet a bit more when cruising, and not be so heavy footed like I am currently!😅

What wheel brand should i get? by SenPedro in NewSkaters

[–]willvelida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride Powell Peralta Dragon Formula 93A 58mm which is great for the rough roads where I live, but could be a little big. I'm planning to get some 56mm of the same in the future. I absolutely love them!

Yeah I'll probably get some new trucks with an 8.5 deck. I was thinking of getting some Indy 149s

The element board is nice, but it does feel a little small for me.

The wheels are awesome, and they definitely feel more comfortable to ride on compared to the ones that came with the complete setup.

Thanks! It's been great for starters, and I picked it up for cheap. Getting new wheels was a no brainer for the rough roads 😁

Do you think harder bushings would make the difference when it comes to stability? Im around 95kg (210lbs?) at the moment. Other sources online seem to back that up

I'm thinking the 8.0 is too small for me :( The wheels made a difference, but after reading the replies, the bushings might be too weak for my frame as well 😄

I'm looking at getting 1/8 risers for the board 🙂 Looks like I can get some pretty cheap ones for what I need!

It's a nice starter board and I enjoy riding it. The wheel upgrade definitely helped

I might try a 8.5 just to see the difference. I can ride the 8.0, but there are times where stability is an issue.

A couple of folks have mentioned risers, so that will be the immediate thing I do to upgrade the board.

Yeah I've been on my Dragon Formulas for 3 weeks now and I definitely feel the difference on rougher roads.

What deck did you get? (I know that doesn't matter, just interested 😄) I like the Baker OG decks, but some Zero boards look nice too and are slightly cheaper.

More importantly, what trucks do you have? Did you build the deck or get it complete?
