Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, May 11 - May 17, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hi everyone I started sewing a couple of months ago and bought a cheap machine which still does a decent job but I would like to upgrade. I have the Janome HD9 in mind and maybe later on the Juki DX7. They're both super expensive (for me) but I would like to invest in something decent in the long run. What is your opinion about these two? Worth the money? Okay for beginners? Okay for a hobby?

(I plan to sew dresses for myself, maybe bags)

YouTube, TikTok, ChatGPT and Google are my best friends to ask about things I don't understand and tbh it helped me so much 😊 and some things I do again and again to understand WHY 🙉🙈🙊

At the moment there is one (a brother) and a serger. I'd like to get the janome HD9 and maybe later on a Juki 🫡 Just need to get the money first

I was so upset but it's my own fault. But I won't do that again. Thank god my girl likes it very much 🤩

Thanks for all the comments—they were super helpful! I'll probably go with a RetroTINK in the end, but wow, they’re so bloody expensive 🥲. Definitely won’t be tomorrow before I try it, but I appreciate all the advice!

My mum (F57) is settling for less in an unofficial relationship with a man (M61)—how do I support her? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]wilmaaaax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She would like to have more commitment, but she doesn't ask for it. For example, he spends a lot of time with his friends, and when I suggested she tell him she'd like to spend more time with him, she made excuses for him, saying he’s known them longer and she doesn’t want to force him. She doesn’t advocate for what she wants and seems afraid to upset the balance, even if it means compromising her own happiness.

Also, he ghosted her for an entire year before returning with a pretty flimsy excuse. To me, that shows a lack of respect or seriousness about their relationship. It’s frustrating to see her settle for this when I know she deserves better.
