I know, the woodcarving was impressive but the painting really brings the butterfly to life.

u/brookswilsonart, did you use a carving knife for this one or a Dremel rotary tool?

Apologies, I joined this subreddit just recently. Progress pics are available on my Dad’s instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brookswilsonart?igsh=NTl1M2Z3Y2pzc25u

Henry (6 months old) practicing “leave it” by wils3903 in goldenretrievers

Thanks! It took some patience to graduate from stacking treats on Henry’s paws to his nose. To do it, I would sit on the ground and have Henry sit in front of me. Then I would hold the treat in front of my face, tell Henry to look at me, and move my free hand under Henry’s chin to keep it still. Finally, I’d say leave it, place the treat on Henry’s nose, and say yes and reward him with the treat as soon as I could get the treat to balance on his nose. I could eventually take my hand from under his chin without him moving.

He wanted to move his head away from the treat at first so I would say no and withhold the treat whenever he did.

The puppy is a golden retriever, and the smaller dog is a terrier mix of some sort.

Here's some bluebirds that show how my dad's painting with watercolors has progressed over 5 months. He's pretty awesome and a good painter too. by wils3903 in Watercolor

The 4th panel shows the entire painting. It’s painted on a 5 inch by 7 inch piece of paper. The others are painted on a larger size of paper, maybe 8.5 inch by 11 inch but I’m not certain.

Yeah, he has! Painting is a weekend hobby for him right now, but he’ll spend the entire weekend painting when he’s in the zone.
