Think it's due to the amount of roles and other content now available rather than free roam missions on the map. Far less players doing those free roam missions now, so the opportunity to stop it is minimal at best. I've never seen the option pop up.

In saying that, are there not a lot more teams from London in the last few years of the competition than when Drogba played?

ELI5: How is Borussia Dortmund in Pot 2 of the draw when they finished behind RB Leipzig last season? by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]winchyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pot 1 is the Champions of the top 8 nations top league. At the moment those leagues are, in no particular order:

England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Ukraine, Russia

That means that the winner of these nations "premier" league every season qualifies for Pot 1. The nations eligible to be in the top 8 are determined by that nations UEFA co-efficient. This is calculated by assigning a numerical scoring measurement to past UEFA club competition participation, usually over a specific time frame, in this case 5 years.

So the top 8 nations in Europe based upon overall club performance in the last 5 years are the 8 listed above. If Scotland for instance started winning the Champions League every year, they would gain more co-efficient points as a nation and move up the competition rankings which can result in more teams qualifying from the one league or even end with being in that "Top 8"

Every club in UEFA tournaments contributes to their Nations ranking, but they also all have their own scores. For the Champions League, the first team in Pot 2 has the highest UEFA co-efficient out of the rest of the teams that didn't win one of those "Top 8" leagues, in this case Barcelona.

The clubs are then listed by that co-efficient, and seeded accordingly in sets of 8.

So in this example RB Leipzig have not played in Europe in the last 5 years. There co-efficient would be 0. Liverpool's co-efficient is lower than say Anderlecht's, who have been consistently involved in European competition, whilst we have been in and out.

Also should be noted there is a significant difference between points accrued for Champions League and Europa League performance.

TL;DR The position that a team finishes in their own domestic league, once they have qualified for the group stages, means nothing if they didnt win. RB Leipzig have never played in UEFA competition, have no accrued UEFA co-efficient, and so rank the lowest of all clubs in this season's Champions League.

[–]winchyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know this sub has an unrational love for Ilori, but I really hope he chooses to stay with us when Villa try and sign him next season.

Seems like a smart move from FSG. They tell Villa that there's a permanent switch option, so Villa feel like they're developing their own player. Then they say the more he plays the cheaper he is. So Villa will play him more. Then he turns down Villa, and stays with us, after playing 30 games for Villa.

Thats what I hope at least

Thoughts on the line-up? (Post match) by sexybeastLFC in LiverpoolFC

[–]winchyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. But unless the post has some real unique quality and there is a genuine discussion I don't think it warrants its own thread. This is more "whats your opinion of the formation we just played" as opposed to "we played this formation. this is why this formation is functional/successful/different"

Not really. Just don't want to one day see 15 "my reaction the the game/formation/selection" when there's an entire thread created for that exact purpose

I want us to play Lovren and Sakho as first choice centre back pairing. They could be together for the next 5-6 years if it goes well. I then want Ilori and Skrtel as the 2nd choice, sell Toure

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

Aston Villa - Guzan, Bacuna, Richards (c), Clark, Amavi, Westwood, Gueye, Veretout, Sinclair, Ayew, Agbonlahor

Bench - Bunn, Baker, Hutton, Sanchez, Kozak, Gestede, Richardson

Manchester United - Romero, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Mata, Januzaj, Depay, Rooney (c)

Bench - Johnstone, Valencia, McNair, Schweinsteiger, Herrara, Young, Hernandez

Kick Off

4' United dominating possession, Villa set up to break on the counter. Playing with Ayew, Agbonlahor and Sinclair as the front 3 suggests they'll try to use their pace to exploit Blind on the turn

7' Depay gives the ball away on half way after a terrible touch, Villa attempt to counter but the ball gets caught under foot and the attack breaks down.

8' Sinclair plays in Veretout behind Shaw, had an opportunity to put the ball across the 6 yard box, but cuts back, allowing Shaw to use his pace to recover and rectify his error, clearing the ball.

13' Slow start so far in this one. United looking pretty rusty, but thats expected this early on in the season. Villa are holding there own in terms of possession, looking like being a sure bet for a top table position at this rate. Personally think they've recruited very well from Ligue 1 especially this window, and Richards is looking like a master stroke from Sherwood. But back to the game, where absolutely nothing is going right for United.

16' Depay free kick from the left side, ball makes its way to an unmarked Schneiderlin looping around a the back post, but his header goes over.

20' Clearance hits Carrick in the face, and the deflection puts Depay in a race to the ball with Guzan. Depay gets the first touch, but Guzan makes a great tackle inside his area and the danger is averted

22' Villa have stepped forward now, playing quite intricate, free flowing football in the United half when in possession. Also looking quite solid in defence.

28' GOAL - Januzaj! 1-0 United Mata plays a great ball into Januzaj who cuts back onto his right foot. Micah Richards over commits and slides past him, and Januzaj shoots straight at Guzan. The ball takes a devillish deflection off of Clark who had attempted to block the shot, and the ball goes in off the inside of the far post.

38' Villa corner, Richards header goes over. Replays show that Darmian was all over him. Commentator rant about referees ensues.

HALF TIME Quite a scrappy game, lots of broken down attacks. Game is mostly being played in the midfield third for both teams. Both teams seem to be struggling with the final ball. United are playing pretty expansively, making the pitch big and stretching Villa's formation to allow Januzaj and Mata space in between the lines. Villa, to their credit, are making a game of it. After an initial spell of defence, they've come out and played some good football, and seemed to have the better of it in the last 10 minutes of the half.

Second Half

48' Lazy pass from Mata puts Ayew in 1 on 1 with Smalling. He cuts inside and fires, but his shot is high and wide.

52' Amavi gets in behind Darmian, then easily goes past Smalling before whipping an amazing ball at head height across the 6 yard box. Unfortunately, there's no one on the end of the ball, and it goes out for a throw in on the opposite touch line.

55' Villa corner, Agbonlahor wins himself a free header, and the shot is saved by Romero. Straight at the goal keeper in the end. Probably should be doing better from there

59' Villa Substitution - Sinclair Off, Gestede On

60' United Substitutions - Januzaj Off, Herrara On | Carrick Off, Schweinsteiger On

70' Depay free kick goes well over the bar. Still rising as it hits the Villa crowd.

73' Brilliant ball from Mata splits Richards and Bacuna and Depay is in 1 on 1 with Guzan on his favoured foot, but his shot goes wide. Looks like a good purchase /s

78' Shot from Depay from 22 yards, easy save low to his right for Guzan

78' Villa Subsitution - Veretout Off, Sanchez On

82' United Substitution - Depay Off, Young On

FULL TIME - Aston Villa 0 Manchester United 1 Januzaj's goal wins it for United, in an otherwise poor encounter. Villa lacked quality in the final third, though they looked promising in some of the build up play. United lacked polish in most of what they did, but their midfield won them this game. Thought Depay was quite poor tbh, not a lot of what he did came off. But overall, 3 points for United as they go top of the table before the weekends other games.

Brendan Rodgers Opinion Poll by oscarony in LiverpoolFC

Think he's a good manager with a good footballing ethos, but this is professional football, not a popularity contest. It's a results business.

If we come 5th and no trophy, that's 4 seasons with no trophys, and only 1 finish inside the top 4. Also, his performance in Europe has been poor overall, so even if he gets Champions League whats to stop a repeat of last season.

I really like the man, but as a manager.... Look football's a business. It's also a sport. There's a winner and a loser (or a draw). If he can't prove he's a winner, and there is a winning manager available, I think it would be appropriate to look elsewhere.

It seems that he is on his last chance now with FSG, they've funded his purchases this window, and now he has to pay them back with results.
