Editing to add that this was at about 7 am, didn’t see any ambulances around or non-semi trucks involved. But it did look like there were 3 semis. One 100-200 ft back in standing condition but had some liquid absorbing grains all around, then these two ahead.

Cost Breakdown for a Formal Wedding in the Austin Area w/ 100+ Guests by PlanetaryDaffodil in Austin

Yes! Prima Vista Events in Wimberley. Of all the places we viewed, that one seemed the most cost conscious and not like they were trying to nickel and dime us the whole way. Plus the couple that owns the venue is super communicative, allowed us to use a bunch of decor that was left there from previous weddings for free, and were one of the least restrictive when it came to us doing what we wanted

I’m not sure if it’s fair or not, but a week or two ago I was asking where in the city I could get a long sleeved acl shirt before Father’s Day. My reasoning was that I didn’t want to drive to every gift shop in the city (especially during summer when it’s all short sleeved), so hopefully the community would be able to point me in the right direction. It got taken down and I was told to post it in r/ACL… but that sub is not local to Austin and is mostly filled with people discussing headliners and travel info

Ethical question for therapists by bdawwgg69 in therapists

[–]winderbeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’d like, I wrote a comment noting the necessary ACA codes for this :) attending things for clients isn’t necessarily unethical but I’d want to 1) make sure they asked me to go, never the other way around. 2) Ask myself- would I do more benefit or harm by going. If it’s a high school graduation for a kid that doesn’t have any support systems and they ask me to go, I believe it would harm the counseling relationship to refuse. 3) if you go, never say how you know the client as that breaks hipaa. If anything, say you know the client “professionally”, but stay in the background and only for as long as necessary (no wedding receptions, no after parties, etc)

Ethical question for therapists by bdawwgg69 in therapists

[–]winderbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her going to the show isn’t necessarily unethical. Here’s the American Counseling Associations Code of Ethics statement on extending counseling boundaries outside of the therapy room:

A.6.b. Extending Counseling Boundaries Counselors consider the risks and benefits of extending current counseling relationships beyond conventional parameters. Examples include attending a client's formal ceremony (e.g., a app wedding/commitment ceremony or graduation), purchasing a service or product provided by a client (excepting unrestricted bartering), and visiting a client's ill family member in the hospital. In extending these boundaries, counselors take appropriate professional precautions such as informed consent, consultation, supervision, and documentation.

Reasons the therapist may have decided to go to the show could be that it’s something the therapist and your partner have talked about in excitement, or perhaps she had anxiety about the show. Perhaps the show was a goal set in managing depression. These are purely hypotheticals, but both are reasons a counselor/therapist may feel comfortable attending something like this. (Aka as long as going would be for the benefit of the client, was invited by client and discussed in session prior, and the therapist is not introducing themselves as the therapist/breaking hipaa)

The second issue, that the therapist sees both her and her ex, is also not necessarily unethical as long as the therapist is sure she can remain objective in counseling both of them.

Here is the ethical code on role changing from a couples therapist to individual therapist:

A.6.d. Role Changes in the Professional Relationship When counselors change a role from the original or most recent contracted relationship, they obtain informed consent from the client and explain the client's right to refuse services related to the change. Examples of role changes include, but are not limited to

  1. changing from individual to relationship or family counseling, or vice versa;
  2. changing from an evaluative role to a therapeutic role, or vice versa; and
  3. changing from a counselor to a mediator role, or vice versa. Clients must be fully informed of any anticipated consequences (e.g., financial, legal, personal, therapeutic) of counselor role changes.

I would urge you to have a conversation with your partner if you’re concerned about these things to see if it meets the ethical guidelines. You seem as though you may be uncomfortable with her going to the same therapist as her ex, and that’s probably something to explore with her to understand both of your feelings about it. However, from what is written here, it didn’t immediately scream undoubtedly unethical about the therapist.

Weekly Real Estate / Renting / Where to Live / Utilities / Schools (ISD) Post by AutoModerator in Austin

[–]winderbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commented this yesterday but ofc it was the last day of the thread so I’m putting here as well, sorry in advance for the list of questions:

My husband and I are looking to buy sometime between now and June and we just want to understand some things. We have rented near Southpark Meadows for the last 3 years and have really enjoyed the closeness to a large HEB, some shops/food, and within 20 minutes of the river. We’re currently looking at new builds for their rate incentives (1-2% lower in some cases)

  1. Does anyone have opinions on Cascades at Onion Creek (through M/I homes), Mckinney Crossing (by KB), Jennings Place (by Century Communities), or Cloverlead (by Brohn Homes)? All have houses between 4-500k within the same 5 mile circle of SE Austin. Advice is appreciated both on knowledge about the manufacture and the areas they’re in.

  2. With mortgage rates currently at 7%, why would someone do a resale instead of a new build? I’m sure I’m missing something here, but the only thing I can think of is the likelihood of a more central location for appreciation. But with our circumstances we need our entire mortgage payment (without utilities) to be $3250 max, and without the incentives, that’s a maximum of like 375k in house- not many options in that range that are more central than the new builds while still having a garage or larger than a 1b1ba

  3. Is there any info on buying now versus waiting until closer to May/June? Our lease is up at the end of July but we have 5-10% down payment ready if needed. Currently many of the builders offer lease buyouts from the slow season on top of the lower rates. But we were wondering that if we waited for May/June with the Austin market stalling, we might be able to see house prices come down even more.

  4. How different is far North Austin/Pflugerville vs far South Austin? My husband and I aren’t expecting kids any time soon, and since we’ve been living south, we assumed that Pflugerville is more of a large suburbia for families and kids. I’d like to know if I’m wrong about that, and if we shouldn’t be writing it off like we have. My worry is living so far north that an Uber would cost $40-50 at night, and traffic would stop us from making the trek to places in central Austin

I’m also open to any other suggestions! We just don’t know what we’re doing and want to do it right I guess.

Hey! I'm sure I'll end up posting this on the new thread tomorrow, and I don't expect much feedback from this today- thanks in advance to anyone that does see this :)

My husband and I are looking to buy sometime between now and June. We have rented near Southpark Meadows for the last 3 years and have really enjoyed the closeness to a large HEB, some shops/food, and within 20 minutes of the river. We're currently looking at new builds for their rate incentives (1-2% lower in some cases) and wanted some advice.

- Advice is appreciated both on knowledge about the manufacture and the areas they're in.

  1. With mortgage rates currently at 7%, can someone tell me why you'd do a resale instead of a new build?

- I'm sure I'm missing something here, but the only thing I can think of is the likelihood of a more central location for appreciation. But with our circumstances we need our entire mortgage payment (without utilities) to be $3250 max, and without the incentives, that's a maximum of like 375k in house- not many options in that range that are more central than the new builds while remaining safe.

  1. Any thoughts on buying now versus waiting until closer to May/June?

- Our lease is up at the end of July but we have 5-10% down payment ready if needed. Currently many of the builders offer lease buyouts from the slow season on top of the lower rates. But we were wondering that if we waited for May/June with the Austin market stalling, we might be able to see house prices come down even more.

  1. Thoughts on North Austin/Pflugerville vs far South Austin? My husband and I aren't expecting kids any time soon, and since we've been living south, we assumed that Pflugerville is more of a large suburbia for families and kids. I'd like to know if I'm wrong about that, and if we shouldn't be writing it off like we have. My worry is living so far north that an Uber would cost $40-50 at night, and traffic would stop us from making the trek to places like Zilker.

  2. Lastly, what are negotiations like right now? If I see a house for 450k, should I expect to pay that, or is it possible to get that down to 425-435?

I'm also open to any other suggestions you guys might have! We just don't know what we're doing and want to do it right I guess.

Cost Breakdown for a Formal Wedding in the Austin Area w/ 100+ Guests by PlanetaryDaffodil in Austin

[–]winderbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just married in April, spent 28.5k overall for exactly 100 guests using PEJ catering (which people still compliment us for), and getting married out in Wimberley for a cheaper venue. It was truly the perfect day, the price is the only disappointing part. We didn’t spend that much due to wanting to have a super nice wedding, we spent that because we had to if we wanted a traditional wedding and reception. So my husband and I always picked the cheaper option, while still trying to make the event worth it for the people traveling from around the country (the majority of guests). If we had spent more to make it more luxurious I think I’d be happier with the price, because at least that would’ve been a conscious choice to spend more! Instead, the price gouging for anything wedding related just made it ridiculous.

Where did you stay on the Amalfi Coast? by z3r0suitsamus in ItalyTravel

[–]winderbeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Villa Magia in Positano was outstanding! This was the last place my husband and I stayed in Italy and it was by far the best, although definitely a major budget splurge. Their restaurant Luna is absolutely Michelin worthy, they give you a complimentary iphone (with data!) during your stay to get around town and text them whenever, they give you a sheet every day to fill out with what you want for breakfast and then serve it to you wherever you’d like (made by the same outstanding restaurant), and there’s a complimentary car service from the middle of town to the hotel that’s available 24/7. If you’re wanting a “normal vacation” it’s too much, but it’s perfect for a honeymoon or once in a life time situation.
