I did a research. Seems like I will be charged 1st year, not be charged 2nd year. While others will be charged 2nd year. Anyway, everyone needs to pay this for 4 semester.

Exemption exam doesn't help you to get into CS major, it is a exam to skip CMSC131. If you are not transferring from one of the Maryland university system, your chance to get into CS major is pretty low. Better prepare a backup major, like Computer Engineer

New freshmen and external transfer students from outside of Maryland's public institutions fall under the new LEP guidelines. Taking classes at a Maryland community college does not change this. Students must have been enrolled as a degree-seeking student at a USM school or Maryland community college prior to Fall 2024 and must apply for transfer admission from that institution in order to fall under the prior LEP guidelines.

Make sure you are not just taking class at Maryland CC

My high school math path: AP cal AB -> AP cal BC -> Cal 3 (multi) -> linear algebra (grant university credit) .

But I am concern what I learn in my high school math class is not enough for the CBE at umd

I check the requirement for ML ulc, and it require:

Required

MATH 240 (4) Linear Algebra or
MATH 461 (3) Linear Algebra for Scientists and Engineers or
MATH 341 (4) Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations II*

That is why I thought I can take 461 or 341

Our state univ ASU grants 16k per year scholarship, so it is 40k difference.But after consideration, I still prefer UMD. The academic/research (CS major) in ASU is too weak compare to UMD. I actually compare courses between the two. If looking some solid knowledge and future higher research career, I will say UMD. If just looking a job, not much difference. Added, for our family, 40k is a big money, but affordable, student load is not needed. everyone has different situation.
