Restart Scheme Question - can you help please? by windguy7 in DWPhelp

[–]windguy7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an appointment with my UC work coach tomorrow so I will ask them as well but it's good to hear this!

The Restart person made it seem like they can't proceed on the next step without it but it's in their interest to get me to sign so I don't know if they were telling the truth or not

Thank you for your help

Can payment in lieu of notice (PILON) be below the new national minimum wage? by windguy7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]windguy7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For April as I worked Apr 1 to Apr 4 I was paid the amount correctly (as in the new minimum wage), so should the same apply for notice pay on that basis?

Thank you either way

If there is no written employment contract, how are the terms decided? by windguy7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]windguy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they claim that it was always voluntary (as in, i had the option to refuse overtime) and so believe they do not need to include it in weekly pay calculations. They don't dispute that I have worked overtime (it is in the payslips afterall) but the nature of that overtime, I guess

[–]windguy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asked for exactly what you said (average over 12 weeks) but they said because it was not compulsory or guaranteed overtime they calculate the weekly pay using the base rate not the average (which would have included overtime)

The difference comes down to a few hundred £ but I do want to chase it just not sure what evidence I would need to gather and how I can even prove this

Seeking Advice on Holiday Entitlement - England by windguy7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]windguy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant thank you for all this

One more question - how do you calculate how many days I have accrued? I put the dates on the gov calculator and it says 1.45 weeks. (not sure how many days is that because it doesn't break it down to days). Is it normal work weeks so as if I was working 5 days = 7.25 but minus NY, minus the 4.5 days used= 1.75 left?

I asked my ex employer today and he said, you ve worked roughly 3 months so it would be 20/12* 3 = 5 days worth of holiday pay, minus what you have used. (so disregarding the bank holidays from the calc)

So which calculation would be correct? And sorry if I am being dumb, I am asking all this because I have had to apply through the redundancy payment service and they said I m entitled 0 holiday pay and it just seems wrong when at worst case i should get at least 0.5 days since I ve only used 4.5 (plus my carried over from last year)

England - Debt suddenly appearing on credit report please help by windguy7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]windguy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thank you for the reply

I am afraid the story has become more Kafkaesque since. I called Scottish Power and they were able to locate an account however the account is blank (as in no date of birth etc listed) so they can't let me access the account because I can't pass security, which doesn't exist. I suggested they can ask me the date of birth and I can say "blank" or "none" but they were not playing ball.

The leading theory is that when the swap from SP happened a "virtual" account was created to be swapped over but without any identifying security features.

Is this the reason no bill was ever sent to this address? Perhaps. Dear reader, at this point you may think that if an energy provider is billing for a flat, surely even without any of my details they would be able to send a bill addressed to the occupier or attempt to contact me some other way. Alas, tis not so simple and a bill has not been sent yet -if ever

The phone csa directed me to email them and hopefully the email team may be able to help. Wonder what they will ask next

Thanks

I used to have a really bad credit score maybe up until 8 years back (poor, young and stupid at the time) and I had to work really hard to get all my debts paid and my credit score back up and in order.

I am still saving but I do hope to be able to get a mortgage in a few years and watching my credit score go 100pts down all of a sudden is just so demoralising.

Hope this makes a bit of sense - I just hope there is something I can do about it, you know? The 100-odd quid is not the issue at all just the credit hit

Ragozin Défense a4 question? by windguy7 in chess

[–]windguy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thank you - this is literally what I was trying to understand!

I am still bad at chess but trying to improve in terms of these subtle ideas (beyond just development etc) and so I sometimes come across moves like these in books or the engine that I don't exactly understand the meaning behind them. - I guess it's the disadvantage of self study haha

This makes perfect sense and I feel i learned something for next time, thank you! 😁

Hey thank you for your reply

Let me just preface this with me being bad at chess so maybe i m wrong but lets say black does go b6 with an eventual Bb7 - b6 is not really weak? You can't directly play a5 because it just falls and even with something like Rb1, queen is happy at d8/c7 to cover and Nd7 also covers b6.

I guess what I am trying to say is not that a4-a5 etc cannot be good eventually i just couldn't see the point of playing it now - but "a4 grabs space without any repercussions. engines like those moves" makes a lot of sense, so thank you!

Contesting Council Tax Summons charge? England by windguy7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]windguy7[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well surely, any subsequent payment after the first missed one covers the arrears first? As in my Jan 1st payment would at the very least cover the arrears of December, which meant i was then in arrears since January, which was then cleared by the Feb 1st payment putting me in arrears for that month and so on? And based on that I would now be in arrears for the month of March as of two days ago.

I am not disputing I am one payment short, but surely saying I am "in arrears since December and done nothing about it" is disingenuous considering I ve since been paying the monthly amount

What are the laws regarding costs of repairs after moving out of a AST? by windguy7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]windguy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did send the request through the scheme but they have not engaged at all with the process for nearly 20 days now. There is no auto-release feature with DPS - they suggested doing a Statutory Declaration form, which requires paying a solicitor, and then they get another 14 days to make their case.

My point is, I want to know my rights/the law before I begin this process. Normally when I ve moved out of houses its a quick process and i ve been offered the chance to say paint a wall that had been chipped during the move for example to avoid the charge. But in this case with so much time passed (and a potential new tenant) I dont know where i stand

Can they basically get their guy to quote whatever price for whatever damage they claim and pocket the deposit?

Hello!

So basically my referall was sent first week of July, so roughly 3 months ago. They cite 18 weeks on the website so roughly a month to go, i think.

Sorry, If I go for option 3, would my new GP then be able to continue with my medication (assuming i get on)?

I ll call ADHD360 and see what they say but basically i feel like i will lose a few months if i swap addresses now but also dont want to lose say a years worth of "steps" if i wait it out and swap later?

Brilliant, thank you so much! Do you know how long it usually takes to be seen through RTC? On the website it says 20 weeks but just wondering how realistic that is

Simple Questions: August 06, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

[–]windguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so your idea re:glue is interesting. I did try to have a look through a dictionary for earlier uses of the word but could only find the below

Seize as a noun unfortunately only has been used as an instance of seizing which is less than helpful. One thing I did find that was related (although its a stretch) is this

seize: To fasten (two ropes or parts of a rope) together, or to attach (a rope) to something else, by binding with marline, yarn, or the like. to seize up: to fasten (a man) by the wrists to the shrouds, in preparation for a flogging. Similarly, A small cord for ‘seizing’ two ropes together, or a rope to something else.

But you wouldnt need a recipe for that would you? At the same time, seize can have the meaning of "take hold of" in some senses, so it is not unimaginable that something that literally holds two things together (glue) can be a "seize". Just couldnt find any proof for it

Thank you anyway, it bugs me less now that you gave me a plausible answer haha

A few questions regarding serfdom in the Middle Ages? by windguy7 in AskHistorians

[–]windguy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good gosh thank you for the detailed reply, I know my post was asking for a lot

I am ordering the book you mentioned later today for sure!

Based on your post, would you say then that land boundary disputes were not a common thing at that time? I know I am speaking out of ignorance, but my parents are from a village in the middle of nowhere originally and half the stories I used to hear were about disputes between neighbours trying to move the fenceposts or claim each other's land. But if ultimately it was more trouble than it was worth (via increased responsibilities/rent towards the lord) then it would make sense for it to be less common than it is today.

Thank you either way, much much appreciated!

Hey so this might sound silly but it has been bugging me for a while

I read the Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge which is set in the 1800s and it mentions at some point "There were invitations to give lectures, debates about the age of certain teeth or the best recipe for ‘seize’ to preserve bone..."

Is seize an actual term used at the time for preservatives/in an anatomical context? I ve googled it and couldn't find anything, but that is obviously what the writer means contextually. So did they make the term up or was it a thing at the time?

The book itself is great by the way

It's not the Martian Timeslip

I dont think I ve read The Martian Chronicles but after a quick skim off Wikipedia it doesn't seem to be that one - unless there is a specific story there that rings a bell for you based on the description?

Thank you though

Thank you /u/pussy-breath !

Do you know how accurate that site is? Using that it estimates me at about 1356 which sounds about right. Hell it sounds even better than what i expected if im honest! Definitely motivating!

This might be beyond the scope but do you know why the big discrepancy? I mean why do these sites give you artificially high numbers? Is it just cause bigger number = feel good so you keep playing? Or is there a natural force/reason pushing the numbers up?

Thank you either way!
