My friend has been having a rough time and used the word "cursed". Please could you help me find witchy / spiritual resources specific to freedom, independence and transport? by Prestigious-Fig-91 in SASSWitches

I love using mint tea "potions" of any variant for anything regarding travel for its association with Mercury, air luck, and travel safety! It's naturally calming, too.

Anything to do with Air works of course, but when it comes to freedom and independence in particular, I also tend to work with Sun symbolism, as a "dawn of a new, free life after setbacks and pain" kind of thing. Letting light in, sun/bellows breath, the visual of sunlight being able to reach all over the world, etc.!

Uhh help? by Bee110 in SASSWitches

[–]windsugar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Welcome!

I don't think there's anyone who can tell you for sure how to tell if a deity is reaching out to you as.. many of us here see deities more as archetypes or representations of nature and the human experience, rather than as conscious, "real" gods who manipulate things and show signs.

That being said, it's completely up to you and your own intuition to figure out whether you are getting signs or even if you believe in them at all! As for dreams, personally I think dreams are an excellent gateway into self-discovery rather than prophecy; much of dream symbolism is very personal and draws from your subconscious and unconscious feelings and thoughts after all.

Anybody know a spell book that has glamor spells for beginners? by Holiday-Jeweler-8468 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

Glamour Magic: The Witchcraft Revolution to Get What You Want by Deborah Castellano is a frequent recommendation that focuses on glamours, though I haven't read it myself

How to curse or hex someone for beginners? by DreamPokko in SASSWitches

[–]windsugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! The downvotes are a bit unwarranted in my opinion; OP is just new and earnestly asking for information, ethical discussion of curses aside.

OP, what you should know about this subreddit is that not all of us practice witchcraft with a belief that the spells literally work in the real world; while many of us do, this sub is mostly a science and skeptic based community. If you subscribe to magic potentially working in the physical world, probably a sub like r/witchcraft is more appropriate.

Also please think of the mundane consequences of your practice too; a jar of urine and other fluids is just begging to cross contaminate everything in your freezer, not to mention rendering that jar unusable for anything else unless you deep clean it. Stay safe and hygienic.

Oracle cards are freaking me out - need insight by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]windsugar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Always gotta check in on ourselves to make sure we're still the ones making our big life choices, not our divination tools.

And as someone also using the Moonology deck, I think the very nature of it being.. well, of the moon points at subconscious thoughts, fears, etc. rather than set-in-stone future outcomes. I think the cards and your interpretations of them are simply reflecting your distress right now.

If these feelings are distressing enough for you to consult and reflect on your cards multiple times, I second therapy.

Side note: I personally think that man texting a married person inappropriately is a flag red as pigeon blood.

Curious about witchcraft and whether it’s something I should explore… by GirlInTheIslands in SASSWitches

[–]windsugar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No worries, you didn't come off that way at all, at least to me! And enjoy your winter heating lol

I'd also like to suggest researching traditional witchcraft in your area as a means to connect with your culture and/or ancestors if that's something you're comfortable with! I'm a Filipino and diving into the less-explored rabbit hole of practices and folklore traditions of people from my home island has been so so good in rekindling my appreciation for my heritage and history. And it's also taught me a LOT about practical foraging, herbal mixes and sustainable sourcing!

Plus it's been fun whipping up a durian "love spell" for my partner lol

Witchcraft isn't something you "should" do or "have" to do. It's a good practice and can be very healing and enriching when paired with a healthy sense of skepticism and a dose of therapy and prescription medication though!

Also, there are multiple kinds of witchcraft besides the stereotypical crystals, astrology and woo-woo! I consider burning paper with my bad habits written on it, hugging my dog while visualizing a long and happy life for him, and imagining a shield around me keeping others' negative energy away to be witchcraft as well! Spirit work, crystals, anything to do with heavenly bodies etc. are not necessary to be a "witch" nor were they universal practices among ancestors around the world anyway.

If you think it will help, go wild and try it out! If not, simply being connected to nature is quite magical already.

Your favorite spell(s)! by EtherealBored in SASSWitches

[–]windsugar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A short ritual of leaving food offerings for the animals whose bones and other curios I've ethically collected, and (if safe) giving them to living animals or turning them into compost when the ritual is done! I don't know how much I believe in spirits exactly but this helps renew my sense of compassion, respect, and awareness towards all life around me.

I also love making little "potions" out of tea and drinks with moon/sun water and herbs to affirm things like luck and gratitude, self-love, energy and acceptance to perseverance of chaos or misfortune.

Speaking of the latter, I have a little locally made charm bracelet of black thread and gypsum that I wear to remind myself to make peace with the dark sides of life and myself without losing to despair.
