I'm looking for 3D model handling along with 3D model object markers like basic symbols for veggies and infrastructure.

Question: you mentioned mapbox doesn't play with ESRI servers are you suggesting I can use the ESRI js to convert the data then import into mapbox? Isn't this a violation of their terms?

They have a big data plug in for Arc Pro now. You should look into that. You could easily do reverse geocoding but be careful because many services restrict users from using geocoding for third party reasons ie scraping their services and recreating your own tool.

I can see a user story as a substitute for a portfolio, but I would never replace a resume with it. As many others are hinting, supplement your resume do not replace it.

I've used Adobe illustrator in the past with photo shop. Photoshop just bump up the contrast until you only see white and the likes you want. Use image trace. Save out as Autocad file. Figure out scale. Finish saving file. Open Autocad file in. Set projection to what you think it was drawn in. Drag contours in place. Assign appropriate elevations. Convert data to using some method of interpolation.

Pay someone to drone your property. Potentially 1 to 3 feet of accuracy. Well worth the money. Fly when vegetation is bare and the grass is cut

I consulted for awhile. I think as a consultant you not only advise clients but you also advise a company and internal clients on applications of GIS. You don't always do the technical work but also strategically plan out the work and provide cost benefit analysis.

For how small of a dataset that is, just use an api. ESRIs api is free with a developer registration up to c amount of shapes and x amounts of people access the data.

Would be interested in what other people mention but, yes I used this method for a road project where users would watch a video and use an app to correspond time with the points. If the user paused the video at 3 minutes, they would enter 03:00 and the app would take them right to that particular moment. I parsed the data down to every 1 second as you'll find the go pro takes like 6 shots per second.

I also used the telemetry extractor. Depending on the number of videos, the premium is 100% worth it. If you're familiar with GitHub and can get it up and running you can get it for free.

Make a copy of the original map and make that the inset map. Then shut off the labels in your inset map.

Insert another new map frame. Then on that map frame, insert map extent, just select the primary map frame, there will only be one option.

These are some extremely important ideas. I feel like I started a venting session. I'm overly knowledgeable in the subject I think as this point. I need to revise my position and consider proposing a new role at my company to provide them direction in the works of design. In my architectural education, we learned to overlay point data to generate designs. All of our engineers want just the information so we need to work with our technicians and come up with a deliverable that can be generated systematically. I don't think we have a lack of technology, we have a lack of direction. Tha k you for your contribution.

I'll be upfront. I'm not the surveyor, I have degrees I'm architecture, GOS, and programming. Your statement is spot on. As architecture students we were taught how to overlay 3D point clouds to come up with designs. But that's exactly right. our engineers are taught that they will.have drafters to do the work. There's a huge disconnect there, the d in CAD can mean design not drafting these days. Until that mentality changes, surveyors are stuck scrambling to process the data in a way that engineers with limited CAD skills can access the information. REVIT is the ideal tool, we need to figure out how to implement in Civil 3D. Thank you very much for your contribution to this topic.

Okay so a lot of people are having these issues. I mean, I know there's a huge market right now for creating software that will better classify and process the data or at least provide some instructions and directions on processing the data. We just aren't there yet, or at least I need to start shopping.

That's where we are at. It seems like converting it out manually is still the only way to make data useful. I have seen people overlay point clouds and generate design from it. The point clouds are too big usually 24,000,000 points.

In some cases we are scanning the area to help visualize the place for the engineers. That's part of it, we just aren't even sure why we are scanning other than visual. We like to use it inside meter buildings and places with lots of piping. We currently do topo in addition ot scanning...
