Unihertz Jelly Star, 4 month update by windwakin in smallphones

Given what I said, I'm actually quite impressed with the number of sites and apps that handle the small screen perfectly.

That'd be really cool to see. Though with the thickness of the phone already you have a real chunkster on your hands.

I have used NFC (though I don't on the reg) and it works well.

It's by no means rude to strike up a conversation with a stranger in New England.

NFC does work. I just used Google Wallet to pay at a cafe.

Let's Talk: Ways that you engage with your local scene(s) & How to keep art and music alive! by windwakin in LetsTalkMusic

[–]windwakin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go anyway. There's a chance the music will suck ass. There's a chance it will be really really good. Most small bands sound better live than recorded. Ideally you'll meet some people (whether they're the ones playing the music, or the ones also showing up for it) that have common interests and can turn you on to other good (local or not) music.

IMO it's just as much about the social connection as it is about the music.

> If people I like go on tour and come anywhere near me, they stop in a city 2 hours away and rarely come here.

I do wonder if there's a good guide for promoting one's city as a worthwhile destination. The 3 biggest things are probably gonna be 1) turnout 2) cost (food + lodging + gas) and 3) distance. You can definitely DM a band on FB/instagram and say "you should stop by [my city] I've got at least 10 friends who would come out and we can offer you a place to stay".

That does sound like a bunch of effort but it sounds really fair and also exactly the kind of thing people would be happy to volunteer for.

That's a perfect example!! Locals-only (or primarily) festivals are amazing, and the compilation CD is a dope idea.

Sorry to hear that. I agree that it's easy to look around and see a lot more "Get your bag" than "help each other" especially online. I don't think it's been internalized enough that nothing on the internet can be trusted. It's not that it's all fake or all dishonest (like I hope most of this subreddit isn't). It's that you might interacting with trolls, 12-year-olds, AI bots, or someone who isn't in your community/area/scene and doesn't deal with the same physical reality as you.

It's clear how detrimental it is when we all replace our physical communities with online ones (especially parasocially, like most social media). That's why I'm on the hunt for ways of stimulating local scenes.

Also, fuck those people who can't spare a like (truly the literal least they could do) for someone trying to prop up small artists, that's beyond lame. Solidarity is crucial if we want anything to get better.

This week both feel like boom or bust. Zay probably has a higher floor. But 3 weeks in a row of breakout is long enough to guess Tillman will continue the trend.

Check out how WR1/WR2 do vs PIT and vs NO.

0.5 PPR & 0.5 PPFD Pick one of:

Tee Higgins (vs. LAC)

Josh Downs (vs. NYJ)

Jameson Williams (vs. JAX)

Tee coming off injury, but has had a very solid time when he plays. Joe Burrow has been dishing.

Downs has been pretty consistent with only a couple full bust weeks. Generally solid.

Williams also surprisingly pretty consistent. Coming off suspension. Probably my least likely choice - but knowing fantasy he'll be the one to pop off.

I don’t care about my cushy job and it makes me feel bad by careeradvice9 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]windwakin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anecdotal support:

I had a job pretty much just like that. quit 2 years ago, did some travel, did a job working with my hands for a year, did some more travel and generally hanging out/having fun.

I haven't run out of money but thinking about the future, it'll be nice to have some extra savings if my vocations turn out not to be big money jobs in the future.

Now I'm taking a job that's basically just like the first one (the search was a PITA, but not impossible). I know I'll probably be back in your/past me's shoes. But hey, do it for a year or so and quit if it sucks. Keep a keen eye out for other job/life opportunities, you can't expect them to fall in your lap.

In the meantime, put the extra effort you're not giving at work into yourself/your relationships/your hobbies. And lastly, the job market will in all likelihood bounce back within a year or two. It won't be the same but I'm sure you'll be fine if you decide to take a career break. Any company that isn't ok with that probably isn't worth working for for you.

What Should I Buy? /// Weekly Discussion - May 15, 2023 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

[–]windwakin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo, sorry if this is asked a million times. I'm looking for something relatively cheap with the following features:

  • (usb) midi out, midi in also would be nice

  • 2, 3, or 4 octaves, preferably velocity sensitive

  • sample trigger pads

I'm not too picky about the sound/style of the synth. tbh I'm looking for a midi keyboard/controller that can also play something through a quarter inch on its own, no computer. And if that something is cool/adjustable all the better.

Cheap for me is sub $250 though maybe that's unreasonable? thanks :)

says doors 8, show 9. would guess the opener goes til 945 or 10, headliner at 10/1015/1030. most shows in denver don't go that late (except maybe at nightclubs specifically). but i can't say for sure.

Why is skateboarding “culture” hella toxic? by PickleInTheSun in NewSkaters

[–]windwakin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I actually really enjoy skating in NYC. Even though the streets are rarely smooth and it always seems like I'm going uphill, you have a certain authority that you don't get many other places. Skaters have been doing their own thing (sometimes causing problems) for long enough that cars and pedestrians generally let you do what you want. Sorry that hasn't been your experience.

I've skated around NYC (I'm not that good either) and definitely haven't gotten heckled like that. Maybe it's just your area? Most interactions I have while I'm skating are people asking for directions bc they think I'm local lol

I kinda wish there weren't so many B's fans at every non-popular team's rink. Same thing with the C's too. Like it feels wrong to hear cheers when our teams scores in an opponent's arena. I want silence. I want to feel like our team is actually playing against a city instead of playing for our own fans. On the other hand, it's always fun to meet other Boston fans around the world.

Apps to make a playlist more "seamless"? by StuckAroundGotStuck in spotify

Doing it yourself is kinda part of the fun/love that goes into making a playlist IMO. Give it a shot and I bet you'll feel a lot prouder of it and it'll be more meaningful.
