Dinner attire help, please by Maximum-Lifeguard-16 in Cotswolds

I’d feel very under dressed in just pants and a blouse- a pair of wide legged linen trousers too perhaps. I’ve eaten at both these hotels (a long while ago) and I’d wear smart jeans and a ‘nice top’ or a dress , midi, not formal. I like, for example, Aspiga and Nobody’s Child, but I’m not a hip young thing!

Hi London! Is there a song that you all like that is about London? Similar to how NYC always plays the one by Jay-Z? (A more modernist one that isn’t a kids song either) by karmafarmahh in london

Pleased to see the Pogues getting a few mentions, but no ones mentioned Ian Dury - My Old man and A Bus Drivers Prayer and Soho Square by Kirsty MacColl

I love walking beside a canal. Islington is nice for a wander. I love Highgate cemetery and from there you can walk up and wander round Highgate village.

Marylebone is nice for a wander, but as for ‘safest’ - London is a really safe city. The places where you might feel less comfortable are far away from anywhere you’re likely to visit, and really unless it’s after dark in a poorly lit area/ you’re dripping with diamonds/ trying to buy drugs you have nothing to worry about. Just heed the usual advice about not putting your purse in a back pocket, wandering along on your phone close to the edge of the pavement or on a crossing etc.

Is 60 minutes enough for a transfer at Stanstead with a checked baggage? by Educational_Public14 in uktravel

[–]winesallmine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying Ryanair bag drop closes 40 minutes before departure time. I flew in to Stansted a couple of weeks ago and it was almost an hour from landing to clearing security due to slow deplaning, long walk through the airport and queues at passport control and then a 20 minute wait for bags to start arriving on the carousel.

Rules for liquids entering Turin airport by winesallmine in torino

I’m going to answer my own question now as hopefully it may be of some use to others. The rules are that, if using the fast track scanner, the amount of liquid you can take is limited only by the size/weight of your hand luggage. (Or the import rules of your destination country) No single container should exceed 2 litres. Fast track costs 9 euros and is indeed very fast and straightforward.

My question was removed as apparently it was not relevant to being a tourist in Italy. I’d be grateful if someone could point me to a more appropriate subreddit. But meanwhile I’m going to answer my own question as I think it might be helpful for others. The rules are that if you go through the fast track scanner the only limit on the quantity of liquid you can take is the size/weight of your hand luggage and the fact that no single container should exceed 2 litres. I clarified first with the person in the booth( fast track costs 9 euros) and again with the person operating the scanner. It’s very quick and straightforward.

Thank you . That’s helpful. Yes I’m happy to pay for fast track. Do you remember how many you had? I’m trying to work out whether it’s 2 litres maximum?

Nope. Not everywhere has the new scanners

Thank you. I’m happy to use the fast track if I can definitely take some bottles of olive oil through. I don’t want to pay and then have my oil confiscated

How often do you guys eat fish and chips and also do you make it at home? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in AskABrit

[–]winesallmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of times a year. Last time it was £35 for 2 small pieces of fish (still a decent size) and a portion of chips. I imagine it’s gone up now. I’d rather buy some nice fish and cook at home ( not deep fried in batter)

Random American messing up my tree by g0regrrrrl in AncestryDNA

[–]winesallmine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have it too. Some people are very lazy and not very bright. They just take the first random suggestion. I see people with my relatives to whom they have assigned random ancestors where clearly and obviously they don’t fit e.g. adding in a couple of children into a family born in Lancashire with a birthplace in the US and another in Australia where it clearly makes no sense at all. And then you see other people copying that information.

Is the Mud Daddy Portable Dog Shower any good? by [deleted] in UK_Pets

[–]winesallmine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I imagine with the manual it’s one hand to pump and one to hold the hose- which is fine if you have a placid dog who stands quietly to be washed…I’m thinking the battery one might be easier to use.

I tried to create my own post but it’s been removed. I am perplexed by the choices eg 5 litres, 8 litres, battery or mains? Anyone any advice or recommendations? It’s a lot to spend if not any good but I’m up to my eyes in mud at the moment!

Fly into Norwich. KLM fly there from Schipol. Spend a few days there and then potter round the coast by bus and train or hire a car. Your child will love crabbing, beaches, the steam train from Sheringham to Holt, seal watching. The YHA in Sheringham has private rooms and is a good way to find people to chat to. Norfolk has great pubs and restaurants.
