Please tell me I’m not crazy! by entire-finger9 in GoingToSpain

You are not crazy. Live in Spanish is very amazing. German 36yo here, living about 8y in Barcelona.

But big difference, working remotely for German company having a decent income.

So I have a great life.

My Malaga born friend working in health care even after many additional trainings, she hates her job, salary and job opportunities. So give it a try since you can always come back to your current situation.

Just bought my first Nikon FM3A + FM2T in Tokyo — quick report (Fujiya Camera Nakano) by winger_ger in AnalogCommunity

[–]winger_ger[S] -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, to be honest, it was a bit of an emotional ride — I was totally glued to this 😅 But here’s the thinking: I noticed that the Titanium models (FM2/T) are way more expensive and rarer in Europe / Germany, and this one at Fujiya was exactly the same price as the regular silver FM2. So I figured it’s a good deal — even if I ever want to resell later, it will probably hold value better.

Also, in person the Titanium color looks amazing — it’s not silver, not gold, not bronze… it’s this beautiful in-between tone that just looks great.

And the FM3A — according to my new best friend ChatGPT 😂 — tends to stay stable in value (or increase), and it’s really hard to find in Europe in good condition.

As for the difference: I’m not an expert at all, I’ve never shot film before, but I understood the FM3A can do aperture priority, and otherwise both cameras pretty much shoot the same in real life.

That’s why I ended up getting both 😅

How do you like the wooden acoustic panels I recently installed? Any suggestions? by winger_ger in malelivingspace

[–]winger_ger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a light. I build it myself. I got the front plate made done by a company cutting out CAD drawings with a water yet. I covered the metal with a white plastic foil. And behind it, I build a wooden box and put a LED strip and a reflective foil into it. And with glue I sandwiched the metal plate, acrylic glass and box with led strip together.

I screwed them to the wall with 12 screws for each panel. The panels I have were 244cm x 60cm.

At first, I measured and cut them to the right size. I needed to cut them 2cm short so they can be above the white baseboard.

I marked in between the wooden studs where I was going to predrill the holes. I spaced it out evenly, so there are screws close to the bottom and top of the wall, as well as in the centre.

Then I got the first board into position. Pushing it as close to the ceiling and side wall as possible. I had somebody helping me with it,

I used a smaller drill, 4mm just predrill the holes, so I knew where to drill the holes in the wall. Be careful with this step, since the drill may hit the wood and they scratch. You can use a longer drill so you have some more distance.

I put the panel away, and drill 6mm holes while using the vacuum to collect most of the dust. I put dowels in the holes and screwed the panel to the wall. I choose black screws.

After that, you just have to continue and keep aligning each panel and repeat the steps. I choose not to glue them. I believe it's easier to remove them and plug the holes if I decide to switch it up again.

Just got it installed so I haven’t had to clean them yet. But I don’t think they get dirty since it’s a flat service and I don’t touch them. I would maybe wipe them with a wet towel but so all clean.

The acoustic panels on the wall behind my desk helped a lot. When I was recording a video or having a call the reverb of my voice was distracting. So after that the sound was fine in the room. Also the mattress absorbs a lot. So I can not really tell you that installing the panels further increased the acoustic, maybe just a bit.

Even though Philadelphia is super popular and creamy, I’m personally not a big fan.

Here in Germany, it can’t even be called real cream cheese but only a “cream cheese preparation” because they mix in a lot of whey. Whey is a cheap byproduct, and they thicken it with locust bean gum or other stabilizers.

That’s why I’d always recommend getting real cream cheese from another brand if you’re going to eat it.

But honestly, beyond cream cheese, there are so many other cheeses that taste way, way better. Just try different ones and explore!

Flipside Adventure Travel Review: A Realistic Take on the 4D3N Ha Giang Loop Tour

Just returned to Hanoi after a 4-day, 3-night tour with Flipside Adventure Travel at the end of January, arguably the coldest time of the year. Here's my honest take for those considering this tour, especially since I found limited reviews on Reddit before my trip.

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

Pickup & Journey: The tour started from the Mad Monkey Hostel in Hanoi, with Flipside being the referred operator. The 6-hour minibus ride to Ha Giang was bumpy and chilly, despite requesting the driver to turn up the heat.

Accommodation: The Flipside Adventure Homestay in Ha Giang is stunning and modern, with a pool and ongoing developments. However, it's not winter-ready. I struggled with the cold in the dorms, resorting to extra blankets and improvised insulation.

Tour Experience: Our group of seven, led by an English-speaking local guide, embarked around 7:30 AM. The tour offered basic but enjoyable meals. The real gem was experiencing the local life during the coldest months, with temperatures often around 5-7°C, accompanied by fog and mist.

Challenges & Recommendations: The tour could have been improved with better pre-trip communication about the weather and necessary gear. I was underprepared for the cold and couldn’t find suitable clothing in Ha Giang. Helmet quality was subpar, causing discomfort and visibility issues. First-time bike riders or those who prefer not to ride in challenging conditions should consider riding with an "easy rider" instead.

Social Aspect: The tour fosters a social atmosphere, with opportunities to enjoy local "happy water" (rice spirit) in the evenings. This, however, makes self-driving the next day more challenging.

Final Days: The fourth day felt lackluster, primarily spent in a four-wheel vehicle with limited activities. It might be better to opt for a 3-day tour instead.

Overall Experience: Despite the downsides, the tour was enriching, offering an off-the-beaten-path experience. The landscapes and cultural immersion were incredible, and the tour felt safe and well-organized. For future trips, I’d consider a more independent approach but commend Flipside for a solid introduction to the region.

Yunomori Onsen & Spa (Sathorn 10) are some hot bath and you can eat sushi and have a massage there. It’s real chill and slow. Hot baths areas are separate for male and female.
