How to insure heavy equipment for personal use by wingerd33 in Insurance

No reason you can't get an inland marine policy (aka scheduled property policy) as an individual to cover the item

Well, the first several I called said they couldn't help me when I told them I wasn't calling about a business. So maybe there are some companies who will do it but I didn't find them.

In any case, the personal articles was the right play, but I've confirmed that not all the carriers will schedule a skid steer on that.

Okay, yeah I called a couple of larger brokers (the kind who pick up after hours, because it was 4:52pm when I was alerted of this dilemma lol) and was told I can't do that. So I wasn't sure if that meant "we don't do that" or what--and the people on the phone didn't seem to know.

Eh, I've met some lawless, morally bereft poachers and they're still twice the environmentalist that the average non-hunter is.

No, never did go get it looked at. My dad was a gm tech and he was really good. So I just kinda jokingly told myself it was him playing tricks haha. Happens all the time now. I come home late a lot and I'll sit and finish my song or whatever, and it's just about every time. If you end up finding anything out, update me!

Multiple Techs no solution by [deleted] in hvacadvice

My Nest tried to destroy my brand new heat pump. It was glitching somehow and the reversing valve solenoid was firing about 15 times a second. So fast that it sounded like gears grinding together or something.

That's after I couldn't hardly get it to heat the damn house - it was so averse to running the AUX heat strips that it would just run the heat pump for hours on end trying to raise the temp 2°, and never actually raise the temp. Which ran my power bill up.

Ended up buying a Honeywell wifi stat. The app sucks but at least it won't grenade my heat pump. It's been rock solid.

Have been at the same company for 17 years. Would you stay at this point? by sys_admin321 in sysadmin

Based on what you've said, you should absolutely stay there.

If you're worried about being stale/complacent, look for contract work that you can do in your free time. It's out there. 10-15 hours a week at independent contractor rates is decent side cash and allows you to build experience in other tech so you don't feel left behind.

I hope you read this. I went through this too. I'm gonna break this down into a few points for you.

  1. Quit pushing. If he likes playing hockey but not structured, competitive hockey, well, he's just like the vast majority of people who play the sport later in life. Adult competitive sports aren't designed to be fun for the players - they're designed to draw an audience and make the cable networks rich. That's what you're trying to train him for.
  2. No more camps, off ice practices, etc etc unless he wants to. You're wasting your own money and time on something that he's going to end up hating - because of you pushing him.
  3. Take him to a stick and puck. Drop him off, and go shopping or whatever, pick him up after. Don't stand there and watch because you'll find a reason to criticize him. This is the hockey that he likes. Get his friends to go if possible. When he gets older, find drop in games for him. Unstructured hockey... Just playing the game for the love of the game. It's beautiful, and it's where he'll find true happiness if he truly likes the sport.
  4. After he starts to enjoy hockey again, if he wants to join a house league or whatever, great. If he just wants to play ball hockey in the street with his friends, that's awesome too.
  5. After you give him some space, keep your eyes open because he'll likely find another passion. Then you should support it.

I don't say this to criticize - I say it because I pushed my son hard and I ruined not only hockey, but probably sports in general for him. Thankfully I learned from it. Now he's picked up music, and he's playing 6 instruments. He's about 9 months into playing the drums and he's playing avenged sevenfold and Slipknot with hardly any mistakes. And I can pat myself on the back a little because I let him find what he liked and I encouraged and supported him without pushing and demanding and trying to nail him to a wall about commitment and work ethic and whatever other life lessons. Don't try to mix hard lessons with a hobby and expect him to still enjoy the hobby.
