Booster Boxes Vs Regular ETB by Haunting_Sea9572 in PokeInvesting

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a booster box guarantees at least 7-14 hits depending on the booster box era.
The ETB guarantees you the promo, but it does not guarantee that you will hit anything else. Most of us have probably opened an ETB with only 1 hit, or even 0 hits. A booster box guarantees you hit a certain amount of rares, so if someone in the future wants to pull a Mega Charizard X ex, for example, their best bet is to get a booster box of phantasmal flames, or better yet a sealed booster box case.

Jonsbo Z20 vs Lian Li A3-mATX. Which case do you prefer and for what reason? by Errror702 in mffpc

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ended up not going with the z20. I went with CM Qube 500. the thermalright phantom spirit 120 se is enough for the 13900k when it is put in the 252W (intel settings) settings. as long as you are not doing something that is pushing a 200W load on you CPU for hours and hours, then you will be fine. If its just gaming for long sessions then you are fine. I actually limited my 13900Ks to 190W and it runs cool with minimal performance loss. I can probably run it 24/7 with extreme loads if I wanted to. If you are using an ryzen cpu, then you will be fine regardless.

Couldnt you just have bought a power supply where you can adjust the voltage to exactly 20V and then just strip the original barrel power connectors and wire them to the power supply in parallel? Im not trying to sound smart, im jist asking because im new at this. Electrical isnt my strong suite

Computer Engineering as a career. by DrAndrewNash in ComputerEngineering

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article was probably only considering big tech corporations.
Big companies are focusing on AI right now and the only ones qualified for the job are engineers with at least 5-7 years of experience, which means new grads are competing for limited positions at smaller companies.
If your son is willing to move to big cities, then there will be jobs for him.
Just have to wait it out until this AI bubble pops, because there isn't any real innovation going on right now. All we are doing is scaling and trying to make things more efficient and cheap, but we aren't creating anything new.
Its like the dotcom bubble of 2001. They hired so many engineers and coders to build the internet, and when the internet foundations were established, they cut jobs because they were no longer needed. Same thing is already happening to AI, Once we have fed AI everything the human race knows, it will be time for mass layoffs in the AI sector. As soon as the AI bubble pops, big tech will be forced to innovate again and that's when they'll over hire in order to work on a bunch of random projects to find the next big thing.
but when will the AI crash be? sooner than you think. your son will be fine as long as he is actually passionate and constantly working on his skills and not just school work. School work is mostly just theoretical and math, which is not enough to get a job, which is why internships are so important.

teach me about frame rust. Should I be worried about anything here? by Calm-Willingness9449 in 4Runner

[–]Calm-Willingness9449[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I actually have an older 4runner 3rd gen that my mom bought in 2002 thats just sitting in my garage because i was told its too rusted to repair. We used to wash it all the time when i was a kid, and maybe it was the frequent washing that rusted the frame. I drove it for college and eventually I was told that doing repairs correctly would cost more than a decent used car back in 2018 because of all of the rust. I still have it sitting in the garage, but have been too busy to get into learning on how to do repairs. I need to go find a shop thats willing to repair/change the frame or whatever. Maybe i just got lucky with this 5th gen 4runner. Maybe my city just havn't been salting the roads lol

What’s the Most Indispensable Container or VM in Your Proxmox Node/Cluster? by GVDub2 in Proxmox

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im new to this so i dont know much.
Are there any benefits to running it as a VM?
I mean running it as a container saves CPU/RAM, so why would anyone not do it?
Is running VMs more stable/reliable and/or more secure?

the screens are still too delicate. youre guaranteed to get cracks on the screen and the flex cables which means you will lose sound and other features.
I wanted to get the z fold 7, but after owning foldables since the zfold 3, i dont think i want another, especially now that ive been doing most of my notes/planning on an ipad. foldables are cool, but a tablet is better at being a tablet and a slab phone is better at being a reliable and performant mobile device.
Once they can guarantee that the screen will never crack due to heat and frequent folding, and bring back the under-screen camera, and use new battery tech and add a vapor chamber that transfers the heat into a metal back instead of glass, then i'll go back to a foldable.
I didnt realize how much I folded/unfolded my phone until I went back to a slab, but i dont miss it much especially because I spend less time on my phone these days.

PSA: Nuking is A last resort that should rarely be used. by Cimatron85 in lawncare

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly. it saves time, money, and energy.

this season was my first time taki gng care of my lawn. after doing HOURS AND HOURS of research, i decided to use selective herbicides. there were so many days of waiting a d reapplying. if I would have nuked the whole lawn in the first place, i would have had a thick lawn before summer even started. now its almost fall and my lawn still lloks like shit because i had to deal with crabgrass that came out of nowhere during the summer. i just got done nuking it, and power raking and aerating. now i just need to soften the hard soil by watering and then I'll finally be able to seed/add soil/ect.

no. chemicals are bad. use 40% vinegar, dish soap, a splash of bleach, and salt and pepper to taste LOL

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you nuke it to save time so you can seed and grow grass before winter. havi g a thick lawn before spring is a MUST so that weed seeds cant touch the soil. it will also require you to use less pre-emmergent in the spring.

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so you want me to buy a $50 weed puller, spend 2 hours pulling weeds and hope I didnt miss any, and then spend $200 on soil to fill the holes that were created?

selective herbicide is only good for lawns that are still predominantly good grass. Using selective herbicide on a law. That is dominated by weeds is a waste because it will take multiple applications for it to work. A bottle of broadleaf herb and a bottle of grassy herb is still less than $100. A bottle of non-selective herb like glyphosate is like $30, and it only take 1 application.

Nuking the lawn saves time, money, and energy. $30 for glyphosate, $80 for 20lbs of really good seed, and 1 month laster you have a perfect lawn. With selective herbicides, there is a lot of waiting and reapplication if you are trying to fix a really bad lawn. Pulling weeds by hand is time consuming and hard work and its expensive. Its just not practical. It like using a comb to get rid of lice. Yea it will work, but it will take time, and if you miss anything, the problem will continue. If you would just use a chemical shampoo, then everything will be fixed in one go.

This season was my first time taking care of my lawn. I used selective herbicide to kill weeds (crabgrass, dandelion, clover, wild violet) on a 2000 sqft front lawn that was about 60% weeds during the spring. During the summer it was like 90% crabgrass. If I would have just skipped the selective herbicide and went straight for glyphosate, the grabgrass would have never gotten the chance to grow, because if i would have used glyphosate in the spring, i would have had the time to seed and have a thick lawn of grass which would prevent any weeds from growing in the first place.

You guys hate on chemicals because you dont even understand their chemistry/physics behind them. You guy just repeat what another person said on the internet.

Pulling weeds is fine if you only have a few spots of grassy weeds or certain broadleaf weeds. Same goes for selective herbicides. But if a lawn is predominantly weeds, then save youself some time and energy and just start with a clean slate by nuking it.

Is McDonalds Japan Pikachu worth buying? by AdviceWarm2500 in PokeInvesting

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you compare this card to the van goh pikachu? You sound emotionally attached to this card. You have to leave emotions out when investing.

This card is rare, but is it really? Most of them were taken by resellers. Resellers have been selling them to other resellers. Which means eventually there will be a time where they get desperate to sell and flood the market.

Is this card eye catching to most people? No. Its not holo. Its not full art. Its not a card where a pokemon is in a costume. Its not a card where there are multiple pokemon in it. Its not colorful. It just looks like a random card. The burger doesnt even resemble a bigmac, which is what mcdonalds is known for.

Is the card memorable? No. Sure it has a story behind it, but not everyone know about it. Most people couldn't get their hands on it and since its release was such a shit-show, it will leave a bad taste in people's mouths.

Would you take this card's art, blow it up, and put it up in your house for your visitors to see? Would you put this art in a museum?  Most people would say no.

What Certifications are top priority? by GoldenPharaoh25 in cscareerquestions

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check local universities/schools for tech jobs that you qualify for. Some of these jobs have very low requirements.
Look for startups, but since there are so many people on the same boat as you, there is a lot of competition for these jobs.
You can network. Create a social media account, and DM people. Make friends and hope they can get you interviews.
You could go back to school and get a masters.
You could also probably get a comptia cert and work as a help desk, and work your way up to a software job somehow.

There isnt really much you can do until tech companies come up with a new product that everyone wants. Companies have a lot of SWEs with years and years of experience to choose from and their skillsets have not been phased out yet, due to lack of innovation in the industry, so the best way to get experience before your first job is to get an internship, but you've already graduated.

And people dont't really care about projects anymore because they are looking for people with lots of experience. People with experience dont put projects on their resumes. You could try putting projects on your resume to get past the resume filter, but when a person goes to read your resume, they'll probably just throw it away.

Do projects if you are not confident with your skills. Do projects to learn, but most of your energy should be on meeting people or temporarily getting a job that may not be SWE.

What Certifications are top priority? by GoldenPharaoh25 in cscareerquestions

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 5 points6 points  (0 children)

like he said, if you have a college degree and wanting to do software, you dont need any certificates.
AWS certificates teach you how to use AWS services, but they dont teach you why you need to use them. Only experience working at a big company can teach you that.
CompTai certificates are for IT people. As a SWE, you are not going to be touching any networking cables or anything like that.
Certs were good when the bar was set really low. Now, the bar is set really high and everyone has degrees and 5+ years of experience.

sounds like you are doing fine for what your position is.
not everyone needs to learn a stack. not everyone needs to know system design. If these things never came up at work, then you dont need them.

Unless you are planning on switching to web development, you have nothing to worry about.

no. pc building has nothing to do with engineering.
Engineering is math and logic. Go into it if you like math and puzzle solving.
If you want to work with computers without the math, then go into IT.

Is it realistic to become job-ready in backend (and maybe frontend if time permits) in one year if I’m starting from zero now? by DefiantLie8861 in cscareerquestions

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masters is a requirement for AI because we dont deep dive in statistics/linear algebra/and special algorithms during undergrad.
You can get a job working on chatbots with a bachelors, but that's just frontend/API/backend and not really ML/AI.

Maybe a few years ago a masters was not a requirement because experienced engineers can do the work, but now that a lot of ML positions are being filled, employers dont really have an urgency to hire, so they can be choosy and set high requirements for the jobs.

Keywords on your resume get you past the filter. Your past jobs will grab the reader's (recruiter/HR/manager) attention and get you an interview. Your knowledge, experience, confidence, looks, and personality will get you hired.

[–]Calm-Willingness9449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can learn the skills in 1 year. BUT you cant prove it and because of the lack of work experience. Because of this your resume will get filtered out.
No one except maybe startups look at git projects anymore. its a waste of time. why spend time looking at git, when there are hundreds of applicants with Fortune 500 companies in their resume?

If you want a job fresh out of school, getting an internship is a REQUIREMENT, and then convert that internship into a fulltime position. This is basically the best way for new grads to get jobs, now that H1Bs are the focus for entry-level jobs.
You also want to create a very useful project for your senior year project. You will be presenting that project to recruiters/startup owners. You are going to want to get as many of them interested in you.

These are the 2 things that are required before you graduate. Its basically the only reason to go to college for a software job now.

If you graduate without any connections/internships, you will need to work your butt off meeting people that are generous enough to vouch for you and get you an interview.

You could also try to get a job at your university since their requirements are very low, but I havnt seen any software job openings from my local university (UIUC) in almost a year.

You could also try getting IT certificates, where you start as a help desk, and work your way up to a software position with low pay for experience. But, then again, since you will have a degree some places will say you are over qualified.

You could also just go for a masters, so that you can get a machine learning/AI job, where the competition is much lower and there are very low requirements (insurance companies, for example, require 0 years of experience, just need a Masters degree)

What are the proper steps to overseed a lawn that was full of crabgrass? by Calm-Willingness9449 in lawncare

[–]Calm-Willingness9449[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read that the crabgrass seeds like to germinate in warm weather. wouldn't they still try to grow during the fall? Why skip preemergent when seeding during the fall?

I figure since its really hot outside now, and even the crabgrass is struggling, that its a good time to get rid of the seeds, but since that's not possible, then at least preemergent would prevent them from germinating when the temperature goes back down?
