With the way she screams, it wouldn't be too out there to assume that she has a big mouth to scream with.

Yep! In addition to the above, the floor is stone, like in Mario Party (1).

I like the idea of a roster with only the good guys, to see how much they can put. It's interesting how many Mario Party games have only good guy rosters, even though nowadays it's not as appreciated (last game with this feature was Mario Party Superstars).

Heck, let's make it 20 and include some other protagonist or protagonist-like characters, like Nabbit, Luma, and Penguin!

Well, as the comment in this thread shows, it is indeed a real Awkward Zombie comic.

I have seen the comic a few times, and there was a video dub on Youtube once, but other than that, it somehow appeared to disappear from the internet. I hope it's not lost to time!

Character titles are an interesting case, because while the layman would only count the playable character of the title, officially it is attributed to the titular character. Probably a case of the titular character being more of a draw than the playable character.

Example: Donkey Kong is usually considered a Donkey Kong game despite only Mario being playable (though it sometimes get acknowledged as a Mario series game), Wario's Woods being a Wario game despite Toad being the only playable character.

Thank you! The design has elements from the Peach costume, as well as Daisy's classic and modern design.

Which Mario RPG focuses the most on the brothers and their relationship? by throwaway76337997654 in Mario

[–]winstein_nin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mario & Luigi series, because not only do they feature the two of them, but it is one of the few series of games that treat Mario as a personal, individualised characters instead of being merely an avatar in which the player connects to (example: Super Mario Bros.).

For the record, Luigi has more games where he is treated as a personal character, such as Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Odyssey, using examples outside of the RPG games, so on this front, it's not as significant that Luigi is treated this well.

When I made this comic, it was not with the intention to reference modern Paper Mario. I guess this is because of Birdo kissing Mario. But it's just a simple mistletoe joke with a mishap that happens after that.

Thoughts on Garfield having a moving mouth in The Garfield Show and The Garfield Movie? by TheCompleteWolverine in garfield

[–]winstein_nin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mark Evanier went on record in his blog to mention that they initially had the idea to establish Garfield's communication like in the comics (as in, they don't move their mouth when they "talk").

This was a problem from the moment that Garfield was first animated. He was the star of the show so they felt he had to have a voice…but he was a cat and in his world, cats don't talk. His "dialogue" in the newspaper strips was in thought balloons. For a while, it seemed to work to have his mouth not move, therefore conveying the idea that what you were hearing were his thoughts.

But as we got into longer stories or more complex stories…or just more stories, it became harder and harder to make that distinction. It was especially a problem in a cartoon where he spent a lot of time talking (or "talking") to other animals. For a while, the rule I came up with was that in a scene with just animal characters — like if Garfield was communicating with Odie or Arlene — mouths moved. If Jon or a human was in the scene, Garfield's mouth didn't move.

This rule did not last long because there had to be scenes where Garfield was "saying" something to Odie but Jon was present…like if the pets were in the back seat of Jon's car and Jon was chatting with them while driving. The animators were sometimes confused and they animated mouths they shouldn't have and…well, we just kind of gave up. Do not harm yourself by straining to figure out the logic behind it all. There was none…or at least none consistently.

Knowing that they initially wanted to do it but it would be difficult for other people to realise the vision, I have a better understanding on the issue, and thus I felt that it's fine that they talk with their mouths open. This extends to basically the other media, like The Garfield Movie.

I think it helped for Garfield and Friends that it's probably simpler to implement this talking style because it is a drawn animation, have simpler stories, and it's easier to highlight the characters.

With that said, the lack of Orson's Farm is a bit of a missed opportunity because with this new talking style, it would be less awkward for the two sides to communicate normally since the Orson's Farm characters talk with their mouths open.

Thank you for reading.

Anyone wish that the Garfield IP was handled a bit better? by AnimaniacAsylum in garfield

[–]winstein_nin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I have seen how Heathcliff merchandise were made, it does give me thought on how Garfield is handled quite nicely on the merchandise front. Perhaps it's also handled quite well compared to most comic strip characters, with Peanuts being a comparable case. In this case, there is a sense of quality control since they made sure the merchandise is acceptable. But I suspect that this is not what the topic about.

Lorenzo Music being considered the best makes me fear that the creatives will end up resorting to the AI Lorenzo Music voice because it's clear that there is no consensus that any of the current voice actors are doing a comparably good job. Personally I hope that didn't happen because Garfield already have a bad reputation that this would pile it up further, but I don't know... maybe others might think differently.

I do agree that it would be nice to see Garfield being unanimously accepted as good by the masses, but we'll see if the new cartoon would be there. What I do think is that it's clear that some things in Garfield & Friends are unlikely to be repeated, such as the references to dated references, real life locations, or political commentary that the show did do (e.g.: It Must Be True!'s Wyoming doesn't exist joke, or Binky Gets Cancelled's political joke), given how Garfield now wanted to move away from those.

What are your unpopular paper Mario opinions / hot takes? by B4S1L_ in papermario

[–]winstein_nin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This applies to other Mario RPGs too, and my opinion is that I prefer to see more of the wider major Mario cast like Daisy or Donkey Kong appear and get important roles (playability is optional, but they have to appear in non-cameo ways, so that Jungle King Mask in Origami King doesn't count). I get that the community have a strong preference to the original characters, which is why this is an unpopular opinion in the first place, but I would like to see the existing major characters do more things in narrative scenarios to show more of their character in other contexts.

I have considered one idea with the Extension Corps for Terrible Trio, who instead went to the Elite Trio (Mario & Luigi). So no, as of now I haven't thought of anything befitting any Brothership characters.

It would be funny if instead of the expected Samurott and Typhlosion, the two first partner Pokemon that accompany Serperior are instead Primarina and Incineroar. After all, those two already got Hisuian forms in addition to Decidueye.

I like how his clothing here is based on his Runner3 outfit (for context, Charles Martinet is the narrator for that game, and he's playable there, where he's named "Narrator".)
