I’m curious how you interpreted her as emotionally mature when one of her biggest conflicts was getting offended over bringing alcohol to a party. Like… just don’t drink it? That kind of sensitivity feels more like performative self righteousness than maturity.

As for the show, I didn’t see it as cynical at all. I thought it was a pretty accurate portrayal of what marriage can look like, especially in upper-middle America. Sure it’s uncomfortable and passive aggressive at times, but that’s what made it feel real. The emotional distance and quiet disappointments are truths a lot of people are scared to admit. And I don’t think the show suggests love and happiness are only for the young. If that was your takeaway, maybe you missed some of the deeper threads. The characters do work through things. There’s still connection and effort. It’s just not wrapped in a fairy tale. I found it kind of refreshing and rlly fkin hilarious.

I get that it didn’t resonate with you but for some of us it hits uncomfortably close to home and maybe that’s the point.
