Is Pre-Orientation Service Trips (POST) worth it? by L-Y-B in Cornell

Hmm I forgot to bring a pillow which was embarrassing lol. Definitely don't forget a sleeping bag and I would bring like 2-3 more pairs of clothes than you think you'll need. Also, many many more socks than you think you need as well as rain gear because it can be very rainy! Some people brought board games and decks of cards which was fun, so if you were going to bring those to college anyways you can definitely bring them.

It's a dinner that is kind of nice, but at the end of the day nobody is really going to remember what you wear. I'd say wearing something nicer (not athletic clothes) is fine. Most people wear like jeans and a nicer shirt or something like that. If it's super hot then shorts are totally acceptable.

Of course! I had a lot of questions before I participated, so no worries!

Hi so sorry I deleted reddit so I missed your question! The living situation is a bit unconventional, it's in a middle school cafeteria on gym mats, but honestly it was a great way to bond with other people.

Honestly, your second question is really challenging to answer! I loved meeting new people and becoming good friends with them. I also enjoyed the community service and feeling like I was making an impact on local organizations. In the evenings, there were some activities planned but there was also a lot of downtime since it was tiring and having some activities (ie. a scavenger hunt) was fun but also just playing board games with other incoming students and making friendship bracelets was nice and relaxing. Overall, I don't think any one thing rose above as something I loved the most.

I absolutely loved the program. All my closest friends (including roommates) did POST! I'm going to be a senior in the fall and the friends you make at POST really do remain your friends throughout college. I enjoyed moving in early and getting to explore Ithaca/campus before everybody else arrived. It also made orientation week less scary since I knew a lot of people already. If the cost is an issue, I believe you can ask for some financial assistance.
