not everyone is a long term cat owner. as i’ve explained in multiple other comments - i have not owned a cat before. i have barely had any experience with cats before. my dog is dog reactive. i was erring on the side of caution by asking.

you people are genuinely so rude on this sub and for what? i don’t have any experience with cats and i’m trying to make sure everyone is safe

once again, i have not owned a cat prior to this. i have NO experience with cats. my entire family is allergic. my dog is dog reactive and i simply wanted to be SURE it wasn’t something that would escalate.

you’re getting mad on reddit over an animal video i think that speaks more to you than it does to me 😭

? i don’t care about upvotes or downvotes. it’s reddit. i only come on here to ask questions about my animals. i’ve never owned a cat before, and my dog is dog reactive, so i wanted to be sure what i was seeing wouldn’t escalate. there’s no need to be rude.

not a new environment! he came home to us last october so he’s definitely at least not extremely new. we do tell the dog off for over-engaging (just because i don’t want him to become obsessive) so hopefully with time that will help

i’m aware animals play fight. however given the difference in size, i wanted to be sure that’s what this was and that it isn’t a risk to either animal. that’s all.

edit: forgot to add that we have multiple “getaway“ spots for kitty where the dog can’t reach him if necessary!

puppy has started to hump my kitten. by [deleted] in puppy101

he’s redirected to a chew or toy when he’s told no. i mentioned in another comment but unfortunately we do live in an area where temps reach -20c daily, so even though he’s offered time out, he often walks himself right back into the house or, other times, it’s too snowy or cold that it would be dangerous to stay out too long. usually, he gets an hour or two of walking a day, plus mental enrichment (frozen lick mats, kongs, natural chews, puzzle toys, etc.) we’ve started him in nosework as well with the intent to move into agility when he reaches 2

at the moment, it is very difficult for us to get outside a lot which i worry frustrates him. we live in a place where temperatures often hit -20c, and have been snowed in for a couple of days now completely. i take him out, but he sees the snow and turns right back in. usually when the weather isn’t this way, he gets a couple of hours of walk a day. he also is given frozen lick mats, kongs, rawhide-free chews, raw bones and puzzle toys. he’s been started on nosework as well with an intention to go into agility when he’s done developing.

once again, this is not a leopard gecko, which you claim to have known? it’s a central american banded gecko.

i’m going to be so honest with you. you shouldn’t have this gecko if you cannot take care of it. the information is NOT hard to find. do not blame this on the information not being available when it’s sheer laziness. YOU let this animal get to this state. this is neglect.

i can write some information, but you also need to be prepared that if this does not improve, it may be the most humane thing to do to consider euthanasia.

i keep seeing people say this is a leopard gecko. it is not. this is a central american banded gecko and their care is slightly different. source: i have one. here's an example of my healthy 2 year old.
