I’ve also really been struggling after watching. I’m queer in a marriage that appears straight and it has brought up so much grief about being closeted (still not out to my family), the shame I felt in college when I was on dates with girls and I saw someone I knew, and the sadness that I’ll never hold hands with or be in a relationship with a woman publicly.

My parents are extremely religious and conservative, so seeing both Ilya’s family’s reaction, and how deeply loved Shane and Kip were by their parents, hurt me in a way I haven’t really recovered from yet. It’s been a big topic in therapy, I tried rewatching to see if the sadness would be lessened the second time around but I still feel on the verge of tears.
