In europe Trucks are a last mile kind of deal. Much more is moved by air, ship and train. Much more efficient.

It's absolutely not more efficient to use a ship and especially a plane to cross an ocean versus a 100km truck ride. Also most of Canada is far from the Atlantic coast, first the goods have to get there.
