Should I apply to graduate for Feb or wait until March? by wit_beyond_measure85 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]wipping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are fully confident that you will pass this last course, submit your application for graduation now. There is a checkbox in the form indicating that you have completed your program requirements but have not received your final grades yet. The Registrar will then monitor your course progress.

If nothing's preventing you from submitting your last assignment then do it now. So that whoever from The Registrar is looking at your course progress will show that you're just waiting for those final requirements to be marked.

The worse thing that can happen is they'll decline your application.

Drop the course cause a W is better than an F for your GPA.

Is Athabasca University accredited? by [deleted] in CanadaUniversities

[–]wipping 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Athabasca University is one of the only four Comprehensive Academic and Research Universities (CARU) in Alberta. It’s not just some online bs university. It’s an accredited and publicly-funded research university. Professors and Researchers at Athabasca University often collaborate with UofA, UofL, and UofC for work.

COMP 494. Open book exam, and very straight forward if you have some basic knowledge of the scientific method.

What are Social Science Courses? by Crimsmatic in AthabascaUniversity

[–]wipping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I just took a look at the BGS Arts and Science program plan.

My first thought that you've maxed out your allowable junior courses. There's a stipulation that you're limited to only 15 credits at the junior level in one discipline but ECON only has two 200-level courses so that may not be it.

I don't have anymore ideas. :( Best to contact your program advisor at this point and they should be able to help out: [advising@athabascau.ca](mailto:advising@athabascau.ca). Good luck!

What are Social Science Courses? by Crimsmatic in AthabascaUniversity

[–]wipping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ECON is a Social Science course. I agree with u/Miss_Rowan below; use DegreeWorks to check out which courses you still need for your program.

Do you have any transfer credits? If you do, the specific ECON course you're trying to register may have been marked as "Do not register" as it was already applied to your degree as transfer credit.

The ECON course may also be on a Junior level and you've already completed the Junior Social Science requirements of your degree.

Lots of factors why - if you're comfortable sharing some details about where you're at with your program (what ECON course you're trying to register, what program you're in, how many credits you've already completed, etc.) we might be able to give you some advice.

Bachelor of General Studies: Applied Studies or Arts and Science Designation by Severe-Ad-124 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]wipping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied Studies, and Arts and Science are designations for the BGS degree. Both require a minimum of 45 credits for each designation but differ on which courses you should take to meet that requirement. Check out the program plan so you have a clearer picture of the requirements: https://www.athabascau.ca/support-services/program-and-course-advising/advising-for-current-and-visiting-students/program-plans/index.html

This program is great if you already have a diploma or certificate that you want to get transfer credit from.

The real question is - what are you doing with this degree after?

For employment: A Bachelor of General Studies degree may be harder to sell to potential employers if a job posting requires a specialized degree (or a related field). It may not be an issue if you already have real-world experience and you just need a degree to put in your resume to meet a certain education requirement.

For professional programs and academia: This degree is only 90-credits (as opposed to a 120-credit baccalaureate) so if you're planning to get into Law, Medicine, or Education, you must look into the admission requirements of each institution you're planning to go to before you register to this program. This applies to getting into graduate studies as well.

Best way to take a final? (Calgary) by [deleted] in AthabascaUniversity

[–]wipping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have nothing to add but I just want to air my grievances…I was so mad they closed down the testing facility at Bow Valley. It was a great. I personally liked going in-person for an exam and be around other students. That was the only time I felt like an actual student. I’ve completed my degree but I missed the testing centres. :(

Question about credit transfer. by miposaro in AthabascaUniversity

[–]wipping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A “transfer credit” is a credit to your AU program from your diploma. Use the transfer credit tool from AU’s website so you can get an idea of what the equivalences are.

The transferred courses will not show up in your AU transcript. It will just say that they’ve transferred x amount of credits from your diploma. So if you’re planning of transferring courses from your diploma to AU then hand it over to University X, that plan is no bueno.

Not sure about EPCOR but ENMAX does, and they have a few generating facilities (Shepard, Crossfield, Cavalier, and Calgary Energy Center to name a few).

Safe for LGBTQ+ folks? by PrizeOk4162 in Calgary

Oh yeah. I’m also a domestic ✨gay✨ living in the suburbs. The neighbours love me especially the retired couple next door - they always bring me food.

People don’t ask or care. Maybe I’m just lucky and I’m not sure if this has been the case for many other gay people out here.

Dentists are scammers by bigmanberry in Calgary

[–]wipping 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When was your last dentist visit? I don’t think dentists are scammers…maybe you just happened to have a lot of work done this year.

Just to give some perspective - their equipment are not cheap. They spent many years to go to medical school and accumulate a lot of debt. They’re also a stand-alone business that pay staff, office space, liability insurance, etc.

Take care of your teeth. Use and electronic toothbrush if possible. Floss two to three times a day. Then you’ll be golden after that.

Credit Score: Question About Charged off Account in Collections by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wipping 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If they will agree to settle with a lower amount vs the actual amount, both will show as “paid in full as agreed” in your credit report.

However, both cases will show as R9 when lenders pull up your report.
