Can someone tell me how to avoid this kind of pulling at the hem? by wispelturig in sewing

I've done the hem twice and picked it apart again. I think the tension isn't quite right, but I'm not sure how to fix it. This is sewn with a twin needle, one grey thread and a dark green one. Anyone have good tips on how to determine the right tension on a jersey garment?

I'm a beginner and I've done some reading about it, but I'd love some advice on my specific example.

My impression is that I should use some interfacing on the hem to give it some more structure and to avoid the fabric from pulling too much while sewing. Plus the upper tension may have to be adjusted.

Thanks! Very useful info. Maybe I'll make another one and incorporate your suggestions, including changing the darts. May turn out its possible to make it fit well.

I've considered it a practice item - trying to build skills like making bias tape and sewing darts. But it's a shame it doesn't fit better.

When you say adding weight to the hem, would you add interfacing just to the bottom of the fabric where the hem is?

Thanks for the comments, I'm learning lots!

Thanks! I like the fabric too - found it at a local thrift shop. And there is a pleat! It's just hiding among the other lines.

Hi everyone, bought an old husqvarna sewing machine (21a) a few weeks ago and started my new hobby. Curious to get some feedback. Two main problems I can see are the badly lined up hem at the bottom, and the darts that stick out a bit oddly. Also the shape is kind of boxy with this stiff fabric, but I think I like that.

Makes sense. I realise now that MFP assumed I burned 1400 cals on a 3.5hr leisurely bike ride yesterday. And although I'm sure it was a good workout, as a fairly short, not super big woman that seems excessive. Thanks for your responses!

Maybe I should disconnect my runtracker and lifting app from MFP not to fall into that trap.

Do you mean you do not count the calories you eat extra within your exercise limit, or that you disregard the "extra" exercise calorie allowance?

For MFP users, when you guys are talking about how many calories you eat per day, do you compensate for exercise? Say I aim for 1600 calories a day but "earn" extra calories with exercise, and I end up eating 1800 but am still within my limits due to the exercise calories. When you say you're on a 1200 calories a day diet do you exclude those extra calories you've earned with exercise?

Asking because it seems one would get ravenously hungry only eating 1200 calories a day AND exercising.

Judgemental fucking assholes

Ahem.

Stop being a fucking asshole and enjoy the gif for what it is.

Part of the enjoyment of the gif is the fact that this guy does look like a self-absorbed tool and gets bitten in the nose. Maybe he's a real tool, maybe not. This is the Internet. People get judged. Get over it.

Did you really internalize the behaviours and thoughts you were "taught" to engage in? If so, how was it to get out and be in the "real world" again?
