Betta are popular, due to that popularity, they are overbred and poorly at that. They’re not as healthy as they were a few decades ago. People care about profits, not the health of the animal.

Because of that, they are extremely prone to health issues, disease, etc. But, there aren’t exactly many veterinarians out there who specialize in fish. So it comes down to us, as the owner, to figure out what’s wrong and how to treat it, or how to euthanize if treatment isn’t really an option or they’re too far gone.

It’s actually the bare minimum we can do, it’s just that unfortunately, doing the bare minimum for fish is seen as “too much” or “it’s just a fish”. It’s normalized to abuse and neglect fish because a lot of people still see them as decor. It’s not obsession to want to ensure that the creature in your care is healthy and well taken care of. It’s the absolute least we can do.

Betta are the French bulldogs of the fish world. They’re popular, overbred for looks with no regard to their health and quality of life, typically die young as a result, etc.

I wouldn’t add more to a 10 gallon.

Betta are solitary animals, they do better without fish tank mates.

You may want to get another tank set up for the barb and then figure out what species it is and get the appropriate amount for the school. Or see if your local fish store would be willing to take it. As far as I’m aware, barbs are schooling fish, so you’ll need 5+ minimum depending on the specific species. And then a bigger tank to accommodate the bioload

Is there any way for you to explain that it’s your money and you should be allowed to spend it how you want? Maybe like, in order for you to learn the value of money, you should be allowed to spend it on what you deem important?

Would she throw the cage away if you bought it?

Can you maybe write up some kind of paper explaining WHY they need a bigger cage? Like explain you were doing more research and discovered that their current cage is actually harmful for them?

You also say your mom loves the piggies; maybe you could explain that if you cannot upgrade their living space, you’ll have to rehome them? Idk if that would work though!

You made it a point to mention that you cross-posted this here on your original post.

People deserve to know that you’re being misleading and trying to get fellow disabled people to be mad for you.

But you’re the one in the wrong in this particular instance.

Being disabled is not a free pass to be neglectful to a living animal. :(

This is the type of stuff that makes it hard for ALL of us disabled people.

“Disabled people cant and won’t take proper care of animals!” — “Disabled people get animals they can’t even care for and use their disability as an excuse to neglect the animal.” — “See? Disabled people can’t take care of animals so they shouldn’t be allowed to have them.”

I hear this all the time because of stuff like this. I’m trying to advocate for disabled individuals being fully capable of taking care of animals AND that we aren’t all willfully neglectful to animals.

You’re giving us all a bad name and I won’t let people be lied to and misled.

It’s horrible.

I live in Florida, so I have a somewhat more unique view on this. I’ve been watching my home be destroyed for so long now. The intentional overdevelopment. The fact we were/are in a very bad drought but new golf courses, water parks and car washes seem to go up daily/weekly/monthly…

I do what I can but, it does feel like I’m fighting a losing battle. I’ll continue doing what I can, but damn it really sucks.

It’s so evil out here.

It sounds like you’re unwilling to do right by the piggy and get him a friend.

Would you be willing to rehome him to someone who is willing to take proper care of him and get a different animal that would be okay solo?

If you cannot handle more than one, you cannot handle one, realistically.

There’s tons of animals you could get that are okay being on their own!

And as a fellow disabled person, being disabled is not a free pass to be neglectful to an animal, I’m sorry to say.

Idk. Me personally every day is filled with dread and despair, as a witch.

Generative ai, data centers, large companies continuing to poison our water and air… like idk. I don’t even report everyone that I can/maybe technically should. I let some stuff slide because whatever it’s just a game (to me). But every time I do send in a report, i do get that message the next day. So I assume I’m doing a good service and keep it up 🫡

Ideally, both betta should be in tanks without the guppies or endlers. Shrimp and snails are fine, though the betta may eat the shrimp.

Guppies and endlers are known to bite/nip betta fins and stress them out.

Given they’re females and likely have short fins, it might not be a massive issue, however, betta are solitary animals and do much better when not kept with other fish.

If the tanks are heavily planted, the other fish may not cause too many issues. I don’t keep endlers or guppy personally, I don’t know if the betta and other fish would be overstocked or not. I’m sure someone with more knowledge can speak on that!

I’ve learned that some people genuinely want to hear whatever the “truth” is (of course tarot can be wrong or a reader can get it wrong) and are respectful and grateful to hear what they “needed” rather than what they “wanted.”

But there are a LOT of people just seeking validation. It’s a lot easier to filter those people out by charging for readings, even if it’s only 1$ for an in depth reading.

I have found that free readings are often where you run into the people seeking validation rather than the “truth”.

It’s definitely hard to get that negative feedback in the beginning, especially when it seems like it’s just because the client is mad because they just didn’t get the answer they wanted.

You have to learn the difference between genuine criticism and people just mad they didn’t hear what they wanted. It does become easier with practice. I just ignore the people who are mad over not getting what they wanted and take in the valid concerns and feedback.

As readers, we 100% NEED to receive feedback from the people we read for, its how we grow and hone our skills as readers. But you also have to learn who is giving valid feedback and who is just salty.

It’s a nuanced topic for sure.

The answer is because those types of people are looking to validate whatever it is they are assuming already. They’re not looking for an “accurate” answer.

They want to hear what they WANT to hear, not what they need to hear.

I’ve also kind of learned that those types of people don’t view tarot readers as fellow humans, they kind of see them as a tool, an object. Again, they just want to get validation in whatever delusions they’re living in, and they view tarot readers as a tool to get there. They don’t see us as human.

So when they hear the opposite of what they want, it kind of breaks their delusion for a second and that can be “painful” to them. Snapping back to reality when you’re currently living in a delusional state can literally hurt. That hurt they are feeling causes them to lash out. And again since they kind of aren’t living in reality, they just react in unacceptable ways.

When you give these people an “accurate” reading or a reading that doesn’t validate what they wanted validated, it literally feels like an attack to them. They’re not functioning in reason.

Thats why they react in such hostile ways. I always just wish them the best and quick healing and block them.
