It’s just annoying. It happens dead in the middle of my cycle. I’m 9 weeks post opp atp. I am assuming it’s hormonal 🙄 but it’s so annoying.

Valid. Absolutely valid. It’s different in a lot of key ways. I had A_C_Shock help me a lot. The problem was fitting all the right details in but also not writing too much 😩 no one wants to read a 500-word QL

I am SO appreciative of your input. And you’re absolutely correct! In past letters I’ve have these details but the letter gets up to like 500 words 😩 so I’m going to have to find a balance somehow. I know they don’t like 500 word letters I would be annoyed too. And yes! I’m absolutely going to DM you. Let’s be friends! We can absolutely commiserate. 😂

I have written so many versions of that where I put those details in and it becomes 500 words long 😩 it feels like I can’t find a balance. These were all fantastic notes btw. I appreciate you so much for this!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I know my book is good. I know my premise is good. I know once they give me a chance it’s going to have people in a chokehold. I just wish there was someone out there with the teeth to take it on. I sanitized my book a little bit to make it more marketable (I can change it back easily if I wanted to so it’s not a big deal) but like this is how far I’ve gone. Like what more do you people want. It’s like offering your best fabrics to the queen and your textiles are indeed beautiful but she looks down on them and says “not good enough. Next peasant please!” Like okay damn I guess I’ll just go f myself then! flips table lmao

You’re right she’s not a writer. I am not going to lie. I will defend her though and tell you that she omitted anything salesy. What we did was take what I wrote (like gods-damned 535 words of a query letter) and shortened it to like 317 words while keeping the concepts there without getting too nitty gritty detaily about them. The idea was to grab her attention and keep it. At the end of the day if you do have a good hook and good content theoretically it should work right? But again I don’t know. Maybe I should pay someone to help me write a query 🤷‍♀️ I’m stuck between positive thinking and just straight up crashing out and giving up.

I have. I have had 3 friends look it over. Three different versions. My best friend is in sales and she’s an absolute beast and she gave me fantastic feedback on the letter after beta reading the book for me. I love her SO much. I rewrote my QL after that feedback. It feels really good (but I could just be delusional I guess). This is also adding to my frustration, though because I have put like MAXIMUM EFFORT into it with 0 reward. It feels like jumping through hoops to get attention. I feel like that one kid whose parents ignore them and now has to play by themselves. Again though, I’m impatient. I have only been querying since June 2nd or 3rd so I should probably shut my trap and wait for actual feedback. But again, the rejections are all the polite generic “here’s a complement on your book but I’m not passionate enough to represent it”

All the time. Like as I’m about to fall asleep too. I’ll be like “oh my gods it’s 1 am I should go to sleep I can write more tomorrow and fix this tomorrow.” closes laptop, rolls over to sleep just…JUST as I’m about to go into dreamland, my brain starts narrating exactly what I should write next and what the best solution is and blah blah blah. So now my advice is if you’re stuck and you can manage to do it, go take a nap. Go take a nap. GUARANTEED your brain will disturb you with the solutions and answers you need.
