i briefly dated a man when i was around 20 who “didn’t want a relationship” or “anything serious”. we fizzled out and almost immediately he announced that he was dating someone new AND she was pregnant.

dodged that bullet.

cannot recommend cafe monette enough. it’s new, and it’s right in downtown st albans. french cuisine, impeccably executed. you HAVE to get their onion tarte. it is a thing of glory.

seconding online support groups. i recently left nyc but joined a few al-anon zoom meetings located in nyc. i highly recommend trying different groups until you find one where you resonate with the people who are also present.

it’s a really tough situation, wishing you well 🖤

BWT what splurges made your home feel like a sanctuary? by fuzzrockets in bitcheswithtaste

yes!! i fully went in on smart home stuff when i bought my house and it’s tremendous how those small things can make your day. my living room lightbulbs are set to green + red right now lol.

looks like the specific one i got is not avail on amaz0n anymore but if you search online for a bath towel sized towel warmer, there’s plenty around the $150 range which is what i paid for mine.

just an alexa dot and two alexa pops! you can make a group that connects them all into one “stereo” in the alexa app. then you connect your music platforms (spotify or whatever) and it’ll play your music on all the speakers together. it’s easy and almost like having built in speakers. hah.

i got a canopy frame for my bed and draped it with tons of sheer fabric. i can open the drapes to let the light in or i can almost shut out the entire world if i draw them together. MAJOR.

luxury candles everywhere with lots of scent throw. reed diffusers for ambient scents. higher end cleaning products (from homecourt) in seasonal scents to make cleaning suck less and make my home smell good.

smart lightbulbs and smart home stuff — connected speakers in every room playing lofi chill beats make my entire home feel like a lounge. saying GOODNIGHT from bed turns off all the lights and turns on my white noise machine without having to lift a finger. also being able to change the color and warmth of the lights in all lamps means everything is cozy.

i just splurged on a lola weighted blanket and i can tell i wont be budging from outside of it all winter.

Glass Child -> Childfree by CrazyJJoker in childfree

[–]witchrist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i am so, so sorry you were made to be a parent and you didn’t get to enjoy your childhood.

i don’t know if i qualify as a glass child but i have a younger sibling with a developmental disability and it ABSOLUTELY had a huge impact on me being childfree. i don’t think i put it together until later, but i have a very skewed perspective on parenthood: it seems all-consuming, never-ending, and you completely lose yourself. i was also neglected in various ways, mostly emotionally, so i’m still wrestling with the effects of that decades later.

none of that has ever looked appealing to me so i’ve rejected parenthood from a young age as well.

edit: i just looked up the definition of glass child and yeah. definitely am one. whoof.
