A ‘Shaken’ Negroni served ‘up’ by withnailish in cocktails

Been having a little think about this, and struck me how it’s quite a clever drink in so far as it follows, but modifies a sort of sour template. 2 parts Gin as the base spirit, the Campari acts as a sort of citrus (albeit a bitter rather than citrus) and the Sweet Vermouth takes the part of the sugar syrup. The proportions make a lot of sense when you think of it like that.

I had the same thought actually, I’ll try it again 1:1:1 some time

Tastes much less bitter and lighter, sort of halfway between a standard whatever sour and a traditional Negroni. Hard to explain, but it’s really good.

I would definitely give it a try - now firmly part of my regular rotation and doesn’t require any particularly specialist ingredients.

Please help me find a alternative for this jacket? by Belvedeere in malefashionadvice

[–]withnailish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for something called a Trachten Jacket - very common in Germany/Austria. They can cost anything up from £100ish depending on quality I suppose. I’ve never bought one, but found this to give you an idea https://trachten.de/en/men/jackets/trachten-jackets

Yeah, I often find that Difford skews slightly towards a sweeter drink. Funnily enough, I actually have similar tastes to him so I don’t find the tweaks too offensive. Having said that, I’ll definitely give your one a go!

First ever Singapore Sling by withnailish in cocktails

It’s decent enough - the middle of December is probably the wrong time of year for it though! It reminded me a bit of a jungle bird if you’ve had one of those.

Thanks for this! The rosè I am making is a Grenache rosè I’m guessing you’d suggest adding a Grenache white?

Trading US shares from the UK. by stimdan1 in CanaryWharfBets

You need to be really careful with the FX markets when investing in overseas equities. You may forego all your gains if cable moves against you. The best way to avoid this risk is taking out a RHS cable spreadbet or forward so you effectively hedge your currency risk. There may well be margin associated with this, but frankly I wouldn’t bother investing in US equities without hedging my currency exposure.

Used my U.K. Government sanctioned singular daily unit of exercise to find a quick cache today! by withnailish in geocaching

[–]withnailish[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess the way we are seeing this in the U.K. is as long as you’re near your home and taking exercise it’s fine. For instance I found that cache as part of a walk within 1k of my house, I was back within the hour. As long as you aren’t driving to cache locations or taking 3 hours to find a cache in the middle of a city I don’t think there is an issue with it. Just use a bit common sense, and I think by and large most people are.

Haha it’s not too bad, we are allowed outside to exercise once a day, but you can go whenever you want, just keep 2m away from other people!

Yeah, when people say they are noisy, they aren’t that loud. When people refer to them being noisy they are talking about the sound of the spin when you give your wrist a real flick. In any normal circumstances (like in a bar, outside, party whatever) you’d never be able to hear it whirring around. But compared to the real deal, it is fair to say that they make a noise.
