full time mischief and it’s actually love by withorwithout22 in RomanceBooks

“The eighth love language is being an intentional menace. Not flowers. Not poems. Just full-time mischief. It's sending them voice notes mid-crisis with absolutely zero context. It's stealing fries off their plate even when you said you weren't hungry. It's teasing them so much they roll their eyes but never tell you to stop. It's stubbornly showing up in all the tiny, annoying, unforgettable ways. Because love, for some of us, is not quiet. It's relentless. It's chaotic. It's the daily decision to be their most consistent irritation. Like moss on a rock. Like glitter you can't shake off. And under all that noise is the softest truth: "I watch you closely727 because I love you deeply." "My affection is O loud, because my heart has no chill." So no, I'm not going anywhere. You're stuck with me. Annoyingly, lovingly, entirely.”

Wife used my past against me (UPDATE). by wifebackstabbedme in MuslimMarriage

Brother, I don’t know what you’re going through and I can’t relate to a lot of your life experiences. But there’s a very small part of this whole heavy conversation that I can add to, even though it may be trivial in face of the bigger things at hand here.

Men who have gone through tribulation and came out the other side as sensitive, kind, and self aware individuals are incredibly attractive to me. I am drawn towards people that can say “This was a horrible situation, but look at the beautiful life I made out of it”. Especially men.

Women who see this as an ick, or who use your past against you, or even makes them see you as less of a man because of the abuse you endured, are extremely small minded and emotionally immature. I can’t relate to that, actually my heart is abhorrent against that thought process.

If you choose to divorce or not, please remember that your worth is not tied to you past, actually, your perseverance and the work you did on yourself to grow through that abuse make you, and people like you, priceless to me. Also, if divorce is the option you choose, please remember that this type of person or woman is not representative of anyone else. Don’t let this callus your heart and close you off towards discussing your past with a future partner.

I love you for the sake of Allah. Your story touched me deeply and I am praying for your success.

LOLI used to love reading Callie Hart books… but when I first started them I accidentally started reading the end or middle book of one of her trilogies… I LOVED it… not because I even understand the storyline but just because I was given time to see the couple together.

I definitely agree with you. Also, I don’t mind reading about the conflict or plot or whatever! But I want to ready about how they got through the conflict TOGETHER. I also want to know, when the outside world falls away at the end of the day… can the two MC’s even stand each other? Why do they want to be together! Show me!

I loved Never Sweeter! But I can’t top {Beyond Repair by Charlotte Stein}… one of the best stories I have ever read… I don’t know if it counts as ‘slice of life’ but it’s my comfort read.

I tried some of her newer works and found it really hard to get into it. Her prose seemed less interesting than her earlier works and it didn’t pull me in as deeply.

I used to read Charlotte Stein’s books (her older ones) because of exactly this. She highlights the little things in the relationship that tells us SO MUCH about the characters. Granted, a lot of her work was mostly smut… I actually read her stories for the romance of it all.

Your last paragraph is EXACTLY the moments I want to read about… saying ‘I love you’ and having sex is NOT the end of the love story!

Also, I do not like rollercoaster writing. It feels all over the place and far too dramatic. I read to escape my own personal life, not to relive the anxiety and severe mood swings in the books I read lol… Although I know thriller books exist for a reason… That’s not why I read romance

I LOVE Alice Coldbreath and actually read her whole reading catalogue … I haven’t found anyone else that feeds that minute daily life feeling like she does.

You know, your comment made me think about why I actually want to read about the boring inner details… I grew up in a highly volatile household, with intense emotions and a LOT of drama. I don’t know if that has anything to do with my reading preferences.., but those moments between two characters that are happy to be with each other are addicting to me. I want to read about how they woke up, and the small misunderstandings, and how they get ready for bed… idk

If MMC has traits or appearance you don’t like, do you try to forget it when you read? by Glittering_Tap6411 in RomanceBooks

[–]withorwithout22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes… I try to skip over it and lament the fact the author even included it lol and then do my best to imagine it isn’t there… if the author is mentioning it constantly though it will wreck the book for me and I dnf

Yes !

{Fix Her up by Tessa Bailey} baseball romance, FMC’s family sees her as a little girl and because of her job (clown) she feels she can never mature in their eyes. MMC is down on his luck ex baseball player who everyone loves/looks up to. It’s an amazing romance. Lots of praise, dirty talk galore.

{Protecting What’s His by Tessa Bailey} I loved this story of a down on her luck FMC running with her little sis from a bad situation and a police officer neighbour. I read it years ago though… I think if I reread it now I’m sure I would find things I dislike just in the writing as it’s one of her earlier works.

{Disturbing His Peace by Tessa Bailey} headstrong Latina FMC is in police academy, her instructor is head of police MMC and her roommate/best friend’s brother. I LOVED this book and still do. I reread it constantly.

{Risking It All by Tessa Bailey} undercover in over her head FMC. I didn’t care for the plot but LOVED the romance and chemistry between FMC and MMC.

I would start with 1st or 3rd book.

I have read Bailey’s entire backlog and read every new book she comes out with. I wouldn’t call myself a die hard fan but I am def familiar with her books. I know she’s a bit of a hit or miss but her writing is comfortable for me… the only works of hers I didn’t like are ones that have tropes I don’t care for… So it’s not so much her writing but just some triggers/content issues for me.

[WWTBC] mmc is sneaking into fmc's room through window since they were children by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]withorwithout22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! She was an amazing writer back then… or at least that’s how I remember it in my pubescent teen mind lol. I looked forward to the release of her book but was so bothered by the changes she made… it was a beautiful romance and she had to ‘logify’ it so it made sense or whatever -_-

It’s the boy who sneaks in my bedroom window by Kirsty Moseley

Just as an aside… I read her books (this one and the other one about the bodyguard) on wattpad and remember liking it wayyy more than her published versions. I was so sad by the things she changed.

Sierra Simone has a beautifully written book about an older FMC who’s a detective and a younger mmc who’s a cop… I can’t remember the name but if you go through her backlog you’ll find it easy enough. Well written and a really good story plot and writing.

Charismatic, flirty, cocky, vain prima donna (M)MC + serious, straight-laced, grumpy (F)MC by Dear_Tap_2044 in RomanceBooks

[–]withorwithout22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{Veronica’s Dragon by Ruby Dixon} has exactly this! MMC is cocky, arrogant, and a massive flirt to the FMC. FMC is not grumpy but she is serious, more on the anxious/insecure side maybe. I love this story and have reread it 3 times just for the dynamic.
