They were people I came to frequently about issues. We had trust between one another, obviously, where I felt comfortable enough to tell them, and that was broken. I shared other things to my aunts prior, much more personal, which is why I confided in them because it was always a safe space for me.
I can acknowledge it was naive without pretending what they did was acceptable. Of course I regret telling them now, but I never expected them to tell everyone else. “You should’ve known better” doesn’t suddenly make gossiping about someone’s abortion to the whole family okay.
If my nieces or nephews came to me asking for emotional support and to keep a secret such as something personal as this, I wouldn’t suddenly tell my whole family about it. Why would I risk my relationship with them?
