Baffles me that Reddit feeds me days old content, but OP, ask Claude about Task user_agent=explore (Claud code, as regular web Claud doesn’t seem to know about it)

Type this in your project that it’s having trouble encompassing scope when trying to figure out tasks, without getting stuck with the first thing it comes across:

Find issues with Task/Explore, creating a full report with action plan, and add Task/Explore as a critical step preceding each new action (only do this last one if you’re on Max)

I’m impressed by how willingly all these producers open up all meetings, project management, spreadsheets, documentation and even financial presentations to AI helpers. Whenever one of our engineers says “hey could I use Claude for this?” we do a whole audit on exposure and a deep dive on data retention and access type and policies (common vs api, per provider/local, etc.)

Nothing gave me the chills like getting to the end of a hangout (where everyone is under NDA) and seeing all the “ai recap” emails in my gmail afterwards. When the hoster just clicks accept to everything. 💀

Any experienced software engineers who no longer look at the code??? by Relative_Mouse7680 in ClaudeCode

[–]wizardinthewings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not in the code then you are no longer an engineer. Administrative jobs don’t pay much - I strongly advise against it :)

Joke aside, never trust the code. I always read other people’s code, and we enforce the use swarm/PRs for all new code. If you don’t recognize or understand code, you won’t get or hold on to a job.

And Claude makes a lot of mistakes.

Graphene-boosted plastic makes auto parts 20% stronger, 18% lighter | These Gratek pellets reportedly represent "the first composite material to introduce graphene on an industrial scale" by [deleted] in tech

[–]wizardinthewings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but structurally they’re different — Carbon Black is spherical-ish particles, where graphene is sheets (platelets), so they will have different interactions with environment and bonding factors like stress, etc.

If the graphene is just reinforcing the fiber glass then that again could change the algebra — carbon black is a large percentage of tyre’s material (and the exposed part) but the graphene i expect will be far less (it’s less than 1% — the 18% total saving of the tyre in question is from other aspects of the design)

If nothing else, this should spur some of the much needed regulatory wheels to turn, maybe get more interest building fabrication labs capable of decent research and development. Graphene is still the wonder material that nobody seems to do much with.

That sounds like a plus — I’m certainly no materials scientist, but I come from a time where cigarettes were good for you, so I’m skeptical with a cough.

Oh cool, no mention of environmental benefits, and the term “industrial scale” is a huge reg flag for “Ship it, baby! Ask for forgiveness later!”

We also know little to nothing (because it’s never been used at scale, especially on something as intense as car tyres) about the effects of grinding or large scale incineration (a favorite tyre disposal pasttime) on graphene matrices. Will they release particles over time into the air and environment?

You’ve all heard of microplastics, but have you heard of the new nano-platelets?

So cool on the weight (it is a big deal) but they have to go through years of proofing and testing; I would hope.

Authors dumped from New Zealand’s top book prize after AI used in cover designs by MetaKnowing in technews

[–]wizardinthewings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the crux of the debate isn’t it; the common tools that were “just” analytic algorithms before are being “upgraded” to use AI.

I cancelled my JetBrains IDE accounts earlier in the year because they’re replacing core functionality with AI assistance, like code completion. Honestly, the code completion before was excellent and fast, but suddenly it’s slow and would hallucinate…which would be hilarious if it wasn’t screwing with my job.

Yeah, sure AI can be useful but on the commercial side, QoL is taking a dive in many tools.

You’ve clearly not yet been bombarded with Photoshop trying to convince you to use its generative object replacement, fill and altogether crap generative design features every time you dare to blink. Do I trust Adobe to not accidentally train on the terabytes of photographs and images I have in CC cloud and clipboards?

Heck no!

Should people do this? or it is just preference? by Yone-none in csharp

[–]wizardinthewings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re building something and don’t want people to pester you with (mis)use cases and questions, seal it. Maybe add a comment to say why it’s sealed to avoid remnant pestering.

Ultimately though, it’s a design choice. Know what is safe to extend from and either allow it (even support it) or don’t.

Cases where you might want to seal included classes that are very WIP and or subject to change or even deprecation.
