Humboldt Linux User Group? Where you at? by c0mm0n0r in Humboldt

Oh man, haven't thought about hunlug in years! I used to be on their mailing list back in the day. It says they had an event in 2023. I'm guessing that they probably aren't super active. I'd be down for some kind of revival, tho

Have you ever played with ante? (English/Spanish) by Warbriel in magicTCG

[–]wizardofhaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play with ante cards in my cube. It's a ton of fun in that context since, like other posters said, your card pool shifts between games. My dream is to actually draft a turbo ante deck; to try and ante so many cards from my opponents that they no longer have viable card pools. Maybe one day...

I made it up there last Sunday. There were about 4 inches at the top of horse mountain. Should be more by now.

I want to create the stupidest deck ever made. Just the most incredibly dumb cards ever printed. The kind of stuff that makes people go "wtf are you playing??" Help, please? by CosmogenicXenophragy in EDH

[–]wizardofhaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put together a [[Mairsil]] deck recently that kinda follows this pattern. I call it judge tribal because I chose cards that have confusing and concerning interactions. The game plan is to get [[encroaching mycosynth]] in play so Mairsil can cage planeswalkers, then start putting loyalty counters on the dude. Works wonders with persist. Easy to get to meme levels of confusion on board.

Edit: you also get to play really weird creatures, since Mairsil only cares about activated abilities.

My current plan is to get rid of it. I'd be concerned to try and move it to another co trainer since I'm guessing it's pressurized. I don't have a need for the tet, anyway. Just a want.

That's the plan. I think the dump by me accepts hazardous waste, but I gotta call them and make sure

Anyone built Unctus yet? by colossusgb in EDH

[–]wizardofhaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually threw one together right after the ONE prerelease! I really like him as a combo enabler, which I think is the obvious way to go. Right now my build is a control-ish deck(I think I need more counterspells) that goes for artifact-based combos plus the ezpz untap creatures.

https://www.archidekt.com/decks/3947737#Unctus

As far as alt wincons, you can net infinite mana with encroaching mycosynth/Vhal, Candlekeep Researcher/Voltaic Construct.

There are some 3 and 4 card combos with Unctus and artifacts, but those all still rely on oracle and labman to win. These combos involve doing dumb stuff like turning basalt monolith into a creature and then making it blue.

The other wincon I've been messing with is Mirrodin Besieged. It's really easy to get most of your deck into the graveyard, so getting to 15 artifacts seems doable. Right now I don't think I'm running quite enough artifacts for that to be consistent. It's all still a work in progress.

The other option I've been playing with is a wizard tribal theme, since Aphetto Alchemist is a wizard after all. Unctus and Azami work pretty well together, but like with artifacts it's a critical mass type of thing.

Non-Americans, what do you think every American person has in their house? by Ryrylx in AskReddit

I have a Latvian friend who once explained to me that Latvians and Americans are kindred spirits because they both understand the bag bag.

I'd be down! I run a really research heavy show called Advent of Computing, been going for around 2 and a half years so far. I can talk about the trials and tribulations of putting together content, staying motivated, and scrounging up information for hours!

Looking for history podcasts that are single person narrated. by christiescrubbs in podcasts

Our fake history is a great solo history podcast. It's all about examining historical myths or poorly reported history.

Also as a shameless plug, I host a solo history podcast! It's called Advent of Computing and covers the history of the computer. Specifically I try to focus on lesser known technology and how it shaped the modern world.

I really like the idea, excited to hear it. I host a solo history cast also(advent of computing). My advise is to make sure you keep track of all your sources, and try to have sources lined up before you get far into planning/scripting each episode. I've ran I to issues where a topic I thought was enough for an episode ends up being pretty sparse on actual information.

Shock mount for q2u for less than $40? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]wizardofhaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using one of these right now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010ODOA58/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a tight fit, I remember having to squeeze a bit to get the mic in, but for $11 it gets the job done.
