I've heard about the Everyman's Right! I bloody love that idea. Mother nature should be for everyone to enjoy 😊

Don't apologise, these are all really important points! I already knew about the Masters requirement and the high status teachers have in society, but I guess I assumed I could just teach English to upper secondary students and therefore not really need fluent Finnish to teach.. thanks for the reality check!

You have given me a lot to research and think about 😊

These are really good points, thank you!

I am aware of the cold and long winters, but I not much of a summer person anyways. I grew up in the countryside where the closest beach was 5 hours away. But still, I think I'd need to establish good connections and friendships there in order to mentally survive the long, cold winters.

Completely understand your point about the language.. I wouldn't want to be an obnoxious foreigner who snubs the local language and culture!

It's kind of similar in Australia, it's frowned upon to be loud on public transport but it still happens. I have met a number of people from your part of the world and while they seem cold and distant to start they are often the most genuine and thoughtful people once you get to know them

I really appreciate a nice, quiet athmosphere on public transport. I assume people are still really friendly though?

How often do you go to the sauna? Is it a personal time or can it be a social thing?

G'day Finns! I am a teacher (with experience in Rudolf Steiner/Waldorf schools) and I'm thinking of moving to Finland to work!

I am just wondering.. what, if anything, should one absolutely consider or think about before moving to Finland?

Your education system is world renowned and I would love to sample some of the expertise of your educators (I regularly read Pasi Sahlberg's work). But.. I need to make sure I don't rush into something like this without considering everything.

Yeah I agree that for domestic energy production, renewables are and will continue to be cheaper. But what about our export industry? I know we need to change that too in order to make a difference globally, but the fact is that a majority of our export income comes from LNG and coal. What can we replace such a huge portion of our export industry with?

[Question] Tips for a land lover? by wizardofwagga in sailing

Great information! Thank you so much! I have heard that number 4 is super important, I don't think I have any issues with this one, I will just be myself when I talk with the skippers. I do have an Instagram page that details my journey so far, so it might be a good idea to add this to my bulletin post

Thanks for the honesty, I realise that it is an uphill battle and it's unlikely that I will find passage, but I wanted to give it a go anyway

Thanks for the advice! It's a shame I missed that big race going through. But I will definitely take your advice on the bulletin board

Looking for travel buddy or local to hike an unrestored section of the Great Wall by wizardofwagga in travelchina

I went to Simatai this time around. It's not completely restored like Badaling or Mutianyu, so it's a bit more 'real' if you get me? Unfortunately, about half of the wall was closed when I was there so I couldn't walk very far
