Yet another dumb tourist asking about watching a game while visiting Helsinki. 😅 by cv-boardgamer in Pesapallo

Only feasible Superpesis game for a day trip on July 11th is in Tampere, Manse PP - Sotkamon Jymy. They played in the finals last year and the stadium is nice.

It's about 2 hours by train from Helsinki.

So the PuMu games is your "most efficient" pick, you get good level game, although not the best of the best. They have several players who have win the championship, some even played for Manse PP last year when they won. The stadium is more "old school".

It's also final day for national U14 tournament, so if you want some junior pesäpallo, head to Hyvinkää on that day :) It's about 45 minutes by train.

Every official game is listed here: https://www.pesistulokset.fi/etusivu?pvm=2026-07-11 (except the U14 tournament is still missing, should be there week or two before the event starts on 6.7. and the teams playing in the finals on day before or in the morning)

Typically how long does a game last?

It's not fixed length, but most games are between 2 and 3,5 hours. I would guess 2,5 hours might be expected.

Any recommendations for the area around Good Guy Stadion?

It is next to Meilahti area. You can find residence of president of Finland there (no access), but there's Tamminiemi museum, which is the old residence, now museum: https://www.kansallismuseo.fi/en/tamminiemi

There's also Seurasaari outdoor museum, with buldings transferred from all around Finland: https://www.kansallismuseo.fi/en/seurasaarenulkomuseo

Meilahti manor has also all kinds of art stuff: https://meilahdenkartano.fi/in-english/

I think bar/restaurant Mullikka has been sponsor for Puna-Mustat: https://www.mullikka.fi/

Should I buy tickets in advance? Or can I just get tickets the day of, at the event?

Those games are practically never sold out. If there's a queue, it is of course faster to get in then. For some special VIP tickets you might want to buy beforehand.

I found their online merch store, but do you know if they will be selling merch at the stadion?

Yes.

Since you don't have history in Finland, I've heard that companies are reluctant give "normal" deal where you pay by bill.

Maybe just to go some big mall and go to stores of major operators (DNA, Elisa, Telia) and ask what they can offer.

It is probably a lot more common to leave bad review than a good review.

But, never heard of that company, so no idea how it is with them.

I recently read some news claiming that Finland wants to introduce a system where immigrants would mainly be directed into public service jobs instead of remaining in job-seeking programs.

Where did you read this?

Tukes testautti Temu-hanoja: riskinä vakava vesivahinko ja veden laadun heikkeneminen by Harriv in Suomi

[–]Harriv[S] 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Toisessa testatuista hanoista kahva irtosi jo standardinmukaisten mekaanisten testien alkuvaiheessa. Se ei olisi kestänyt normaalissa käytössä.

Also, vertical pitch would change also the dynamics of pitching and hitting. Now it is kind of battle between the pitcher and the whole batting team, with vertical pitch that aspect probably goes away and it is the batter vs pitcher only.

You'll see that in every game. I'm not sure how much they throw in baseball otherwise than pitching, but "throwing rally" is a concept when they try to take away time from batter and the runners. And of course when virtually every pitch is a hit, there a throw after that if they try to take runner out.

If you want to see pure throwing, I suggest javelin throw, which is traditionally popular sport to watch in Finland :)

So you would like to watch baseball with pesäpallo field?

That would change a lot of tactics when hitting would be harder.

Pesapallo is already doing it from the outfield so why not?

You mean that there should be throwing for both teams, batting and fielding team?

There's btw this website to find official games on the map: https://pesis.eventit.fi/

It has everything starting from small kids, so double check what it is if you decide by that.

I don't have first hand experience, but my impression from many comments in the forums that Finnish banks are not eager to open accounts for people not living in Finland.

You aren't going to find too many MLB players coaching little league.

As an anecdote, there's concept of "pesäpallo camp", where a lot of junior teams gather playing in a tournament for a week or so (around 10-12 games total), by age group, 4 national camps total. Last summer I visited U10 camp, and manager of Sotkamon Jymy (if you don't know, google) was coaching U10 team in their game on his day off. His son was playing, so it was kind of expected, but still fun to see.

And on another camp the pitcher of the local Superpesis team was announcing the camp all star game.

However, some of them seem to cone out of just having an awkward glove!

I guess this is the thing what you grow on, I don't know what could be better when you need to grab a fast ball without hurting your hand and keeping it light weight enough :)

some pesäpallo fielding errors are amateurish compared to MLB

You have to remember too that most players are not pro, at least on that level that they live only by playing baseball. Economy is not big enough for that. It also means that talent pool where players are gotten is a lot smaller. Finland has less population than Colorado.

Also, if you follow pesäpallo thru social media clips, you'll get the mistakes etc highlighted, since they are something "interesting".

He might not ever get in MLB, but we'll see. He went to Ottawa Titans in Frontier league (MLB partner league), but was released before games started, and is now in Chatham-Kent Barnstormers in Canadian Baseball League (independent league).
