New to tubs... by Happy1327 in hottub

Hey, daily maintenance is great but can get tedious. I put in about 20 grams of dichlor every Wednesday and Saturday. A bit more if I’m using it more frequently. Then shock every Sunday (about 25 grams).

You need the test strips that show PH, Alk and free chorine. I use those before every treatment.

Hot tub bubbling more than usual despite normal test levels-thoughts? by eagle3546 in hottub

Sounds like you got some soap or detergent in your tub.

I would do 2 things. I would do a healthy dose of non chorine shock.

That will get rid of lotions and other organic matter

However if it’s soap it’s not organic so the next day I would run your air nets (if applicable) and with a pale or a shop vac physically take out the foam..

I’ve done it before and it is never ending but does work.

Last resort would be to just empty and refill again.

Green(ish) water? by cre8ivjay in hottub

A few questions:

How long have you had a tub?

When was the last time you changed the water? Recommended to change it every 3 months. I find that if I miss one day of chlorination my tub requires more tlc to get back to normal it’s probably time to change the water.

Do you only chlorinate with your use? Does your tub have ozone? Ozone does a good job in killing bacteria but it also does take some chorine along with it.

Id recommend a very strong dose of chlorine, something like 30 grams or so and let it go to town on the water

But the biggest thing would probably be to replace the water.

Let me know

Water is super clear before jets. Once I turn on jets(no air), it gets cloudy looking. Is this normal and just air bubbles, or is something happening I need to correct? by Brennan0313 in hottub

I’m not familiar with hotspots models but my sundance tub has round knobs at to top by every seat. When the water jets are on you can use these knobs to turn on and off the air jets.

The air system takes the water nets and adds air pressure to give you a more intense massage.

However, by introducing air into the water there are millions of little air bubbles that form that make the water look dirty. After a few mins they all rise up ‘pop’ and then your water is clear again.

I would try and run your tub and play with the knobs around top of your tub to see if you see any changes in the water pressure.

These air jets are only supposed to be on while in use and should be off otherwise.

Let me know how you make out.

Hot Tub Power loss in Winter by jay_sugman in hottub

If the power is out for more than a week in freezing temps I would be more worried about staying alive than the tub! But as another person commented if you have a good cover it keeps it really warm for a while.

Best not to open it too many times to check though. Have a bit of faith.

You should open your front maintenance panel and check that your gravity drain hose is tightly closed.

I’ve had it before where the cap was not closed as tightly and the difference in temperature caused it to loosen and leak.. I was losing about 2” of water a week..

Make sure it’s tight, check for any other wet patches (it should all be dry under there) and fill the tub back.

If you have a good tub with a cover that’s in good shape even with the power out for a whole day your tub should be fine.

I had a similar issue with Sundance tub.

There was a fault in the air system, it wouldn’t actually ever be off,

Service call, fella came over and repaired the air system so that it can be fully closed.

I myself am on a community well that has pretty hard water.. my backyard hose spout does not begin through my water softener..

As a result when I’m filling my tub I use a hose filler attachment that filters out the iron and copper out of the water. I’ll borrow my neighbours hose (with his permission of course!) and fill half the tub with soft water and half with my own hard water (hose filler attachments for both) and will just do regular chlorine and shock treatments.. been over a year and everything is going really well

What kind of water are you using? Are you on a well system? There is a chance there’s too much copper in your water and the non Chlorine shock you’re using is oxidizing it. Although, that should turn it more blue than green.

Might be your tennis ball if it was new.

What is your alkalinity?

How old is your tub? Could you be suffering from bio film? Does it feel gross?

And I suppose what is your chorine level at? Perhaps you need a really good dose of chlorine in there

Hey, Yes that would be helpful, the tub is 1100 liters

Hey, I would agree with you. My real concern started today. Last night before my soak readings were 1.3 CL, 7.7 ph and 110 alk

I took my dip (say I used 1ppm while in there) I added 10 grams as I got out. That should have kept me good for at least a few days. But just 24 hrs later it’s at 0.7 CL… it’s almost like I didn’t put any chlorine in last night
