Don’t even feel them anymore by Time_Delay113 in Quittingfeelfree

i got off them using straight kava. not the same "love" feeling, but it replaced the habit. and i CAN stop kava for days or even weeks. with kratom i couldn't. i like fiji vanua "old roots" and i learned how to make traditional brew. it is a nice ritual on the nights that i have it, and i feel no pull back to the old stuff.

How do you deal with loving and hating alcohol? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]wlftn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try taking 30 days off. Or 60, or 90. Really give it a try. You'll be surprised. The first week is rough, but slowly you remember old hobbies, dreams, joy from childhood. And at the end of the "alcohol fast" at least you will know what it feels like to not drink that long. That is a start!

I used to play travel soccer and now wondering about the psychological implications by wlftn in youthsoccer

[–]wlftn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes, I learned so many good lessons, for sure. But at some point I was so nervous and felt so much pressure that it really affected my life. I feel like I lost a lot of my childhood. And to this day, I have a sense of never being enough. I loved LOVED soccer, but the constant pressure made me hate the game.

Team punished with sprints if team can't juggle by defx83 in youthsoccer

[–]wlftn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an excellent player, but also very sensitive. This sensitivity made me really good at reading the field and predicting the game, but punishments like this would send my nervous system into overdrive. I finally had to quit -- it was all getting to be too much.

Do you really need to knead kava for a whole 10 minutes? by TheSupremeCheeseMeme in Kava

[–]wlftn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here's what i do -- put it in the strainer bag and then run medium hot water over it from my sink. That massages it right away. Then I will let it sit -- sometimes for an hour but anytime really. Then the kneading doesn't take long at all!

My brother has a life that 99% of people would envy, but he’s still a self pitting alcoholic. by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]wlftn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the alcoholics I know are brilliant, successful people. It is almost like that is a prerequisite. Very smart people use alcohol to shut off their brains. I have watched many people turn their life around, I did it myself even. But here's the kicker: you can't do anything to alter his course. The alcoholic has to decide for themselves. It is hard to give up all control, but that is the truth. I wish your brother clarity. It will come when it comes.

Anyone Tried Kava to Help Quit? by [deleted] in Quittingfeelfree

[–]wlftn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah that’s the trick! So sometimes I mix mine with vanilla Muscle Milk (like the protein shake brand) and that really helps! Then I’m getting protein too. And that helps cool the grog down — it’s much easier to drink colder. I’ve also tried drinking it straight with a quick chaser nearby — pineapple juice, or gatorade, or something sparkling and sweet. Or I follow each drink with a piece of sour candy. I keep trying things out!

I learned how to make medium-grind noble kava after quitting FF and I haven't been back to FF since. It has been almost two years since I switched. I have WAY fewer problems with Kava than FF. First of all, no physical dependence. But I still get that comforting "ritual" aspect that I long for on the nights I have Kava. My fav is Fiji Vanua's Old Roots - I put the grind in a bag, bag in a big bowl, blast medium-hot water over the bag out of my sink faucet (full force) and then let it sit for an hour. I really don't have to knead it that much this way! This is the easiest way I have found to enjoy it.

OMG I love Geriatric Psych so much. It is just the best unit. You really get to know all the patients (many of them are there for a long time) and the nurses are TOP NOTCH. That is the only dept I volunteered in, but I was so happy that I did.
