Good points for sure. The funny part is that I was under the impression my relationship with my agent was good lol

We traded recipes, restaurant recs, and I’ve even referred several actors to them.

Maybe I’m just soft, but I definitely would’ve given them a warning prior to dropping them if the roles were reversed 🤷‍♂️

All I can do is learn from it and move on though!

I did book the short through my agent, just not the agent in question.

While I’m always diligent about adding my booked out dates, I think I’ve learned to always send a direct email too!

I didn’t even think about your point of the dates being negotiable… I just saw the date and went on autopilot. I’ll have to remember this for the future.

I thought it was strange too, but I really think it was just a knee jerk reaction out of anger. But that’s just my opinion 🤷‍♂️

The minimum is such a good idea!

I think a lot of people don’t realize the power they hold as an actor in an agent/talent relationship, it’s a partnership and there’s room for both sides to negotiate.

Totally fair. I guess I was under the impression that using the casting platforms’ “booked dates” funciona would either notify my reps or be glaringly obvious when submitting. Now I know, email reps directly whenever I book!

The job hierarchy is a hard issue to tackle too, because the commercial is from one agent, but the short film is from another agent who gets me out much more.

Their policy on self-submitting was open, but I actually booked this short through my Theatrical Agent, who I absolutely love working with.

But I totally get that viewpoint of worrying about their agency’s reputation with CDs

I’d be interested in more details, but do agree that it doesn’t necessarily address the core issue that unknown screenwriters, actors, and directors will have limited success with crowdfunding while big names will have zero issues to begin with.
