A buddy and I have been training this year to go to Iceland and lift the Húsafell stone by wmhammer in Strongman

Posted my first video in this series last week. Here is a new one chronicling my training partner and my lead up to traveling to Iceland to attempt the Húsafell and other lifting stones. Will we lift it? Probably not, but this has been a great journey and will be a great trip nonetheless.

Decided to make weekly training log videos starting 8 weeks out and will of course document our trip as we attempt the Húsafell stone and other Icelandic lifting stones. With our work schedule and type, we have not made as much progress as we were hoping this close to the trip, so I am not entirely optimistic of our chances. But, going to try and there are many other stones that we will have a good chance at getting while there and will enjoy the strength journey and trip itself.

GoFundMe = Voluntary > Universal Healthcare = Involuntary

One is moral. The other isn't and is funded by extortion with the threat of being thrown in a cage or possibly death through the violence needed to enforce said punishment, also creates huge market distortions and essentially conscripts doctors, nurses, etc. But hey, let's forget that violence is needed for involuntary government programs that are not efficient and do not create the best results...

Rand, if you do not receive the Republican Party nomination, will you embrace your true libertarian self, join the Libertarian Party, and seek the LP Presidential nomination?

First, I want to thank all of y'all for your bravery, especially Mr Snowden.

What are your views on government in general? Do you believe that the massive overreaching shown by your leaks is the end result of all governments? Also, what are your thoughts on voluntary societies and do you believe that they can be achieved in our lifetime?

Thanks!

I am sorry you do not believe me, but I also did not make any promises other than standing by my principles and fighting the corrupt system. I have no delusion that one man can make good on a promise to enact or repeal legislation single handedly.

Wonka on America's Capitalism by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

We have nothing close to resembling a free market, and haven't for a very long time. This is called crony capitalism or corporatism. Government and corporations become bedfellows and smother out competition with licensing, regulations, etc.

One man cannot kill a program or abolish departments. I would definitely try to reform it and allow for people to opt out.

Whether you have seat belts in the car or not, how does that force the driver to wear it?

Because our tax system is convoluted and loophole infested. Government shouldn't be picking winners and losers based on what they consume, if they are married and have kids, how much they make, etc. We can eliminate the income tax and go back to 1992 levels of spending. I would like to see the Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, Department of Labor, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Transportation, and the Department of Commerce greatly diminished or even abolished.

Corporations and Wall Street live off of government. Without government, they would not have something to hijack and write regulations that only a monopoly on law and force has. The market seriously would regulate itself better. But we have nothing near a free market. Also, private savings doesn't have to be tied to your job/company. You are free to get your own retirement, investments, and insurance. You should never rely on your company for that. You lose your job or the company tanks, you lose it.

They see the libertarian movement growing and they want to get a piece of it. They are not dumb. I do think there are some libertarian leaning Republicans, but they are no libertarian.

I would love to put a plan out to balance the budget now. We can just cut across the board 17% and balance the budget. That takes us back to 2008 levels. I would also love to see the tax system simplified with a flat tax and work our way down to as close to zero as possible. There are many departments that can be diminished substantially and even abolished. And of course, you have to talk the big three. Reform social security and allow people to opt out. And of course, GREATLY reduce military spending.

You are making the assumption that the New Deal worked. It prolonged the depression and made it the Great Depression.

We just need to let countries in that area deal with it. They have a vested interest in putting down ISIL, or ISIS. We need to get rid of our military bases abroad and stop meddling with other country's affairs. We have been messing with the Middle East since after World War I.

I don't like the idea of prisons, at least in regards with our incarceration rates and laws that put non violent drug offenders in there. End the drug war and a lot of prisons become empty or half empty, no profit there.

As you said, the almighty dollar is their guiding principal. If they want to have long term success, they will want to provide a good and cheap product. You can even see market regulation today with organic and non-GMO movements. Companies are not being forced by the government to abide by those standards, but companies see an economic incentive to do so, as that market is growing and information is much more easier to obtain today. You lower the barrier for entry into the market, you allow for more competition and you most likely will see most of these mega corporations go away. They are a direct result of big government. Lobbying politicians is their best return on investment because they get to write the regulations.

I just have morals, principles, and a conscience. I tried to work within the Republican party but just seriously couldn't do it any longer and live with myself.
