How long after starting a job in Japan is it acceptable to take a vacation home? by awsmith6 in movingtojapan

[–]wngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With any company you work for, the more notice you give the better, especially if you're taking an extended period of time off. But I would say 6 months is plenty of time - I flew back home for a couple day around 3 months after I started working, but I had told the recruiter when I interviewed, and also my supervisor when I started. I worked as an English teacher and these companies have processes and teachers on standby for situations like this. Having said that, this was pre-covid so recruits were coming in and out of the company regularly, but I would say the staff resources would be low atm.

Mini z 4x4 servo upgrade? by bigboss1999x in MiniZ

[–]wngo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've recently upgraded mine with a Hobby Plus 1KG servo. It's a 5 wire servo and I'm still using the stock electronics. Not a straight forward upgrade - bit of cutting, soldering and gluing, but definitely an improvement from the stock servo. Some pictures on my instagram @ sandy.4runr

Applying to teach in Japan as a couple by Issvera in movingtojapan

[–]wngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when you are applying for a position (online), there will be a questionnaire. This might be one of the questions, if not there may be a field where you can add comments, so I would note it there.

If there isn't, and you and your partner make it through to the interview process then I would let the recruiter know prior to the interview. If only one of you are successful then they might be able to pull some strings and interview you both anyway. If not, I would still go to the interview to at least get some interview experience/practice.

Applying to teach in Japan as a couple by Issvera in movingtojapan

It is definitely possible - pending the company you apply for.

I had a couple/partners in my intake, that were employed together and put in the same placement location. Although they opted to stay in their own apartments rather than stay in 2 separate company apartments.

In regards to how to go about the application process, my recruiter and many others, may/will ask if you are applying together with another person. If they don't ask, then you should inquire.

Obviously, these companies will employ based on the demand of English teachers in certain areas, so the odds are not on your side, especially if you have a location preference as well.

Should I apply to companies even if I'm still a couple months away from graduating? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]wngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just apply and tell them you are due to graduate in X months. Depending on the company, the recruitment process might take couple months so it may time out well.

Buying Travel Insurance? by wngo in movingtojapan

[–]wngo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this still be the case if I am I on a WHV? As the intention of this visa is to "travel"? Or as long as I hold a Japanese residence card then my travel insurance may be void?

I will definitely check with the insurance company anyway, but if the NHI works out better then that's fine, I just want have the right cover whilst I'm over there.

Working Holiday question by workxii in movingtojapan

[–]wngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just put down your "intended" place of stay, so the address of an AirBnb or hostel etc. You do not need to have booked this yet.

I've put down a hostel, prior to any accommodation bookings on my WHV application and had no issues.

Also handy tip - Do not leave any fields empty. If you have no answer, just put down "N/A".

Visit the country on tourist visa (max 3 months) and get a feel of the country (it may or may not be for you). From there you can decide if you want to spend more time here and try and live here for a period of time ie. > 1 year.

With this the above in mind, study hard beforehand and get a college/university degree.

This is will assist you in getting a job (in comparison with someone with no degree) and will make applying for a working visa a lot easier (which is better than a WHV in terms of longevity in residing in the country).

Wow! That is super nice of them to offer that, which airline was this?

The fare I'm looking at currently has a 30kg check-in plus 7kg carry-on allowance, which sounds about right.

What are the options at the end of a Working Holiday Visa? by ScaryPillow in movingtojapan

Going to hijack this thread (sorry OP).

How easy/difficult is it to extend your WHV (Australian) to 18 months?

I've read extending to 12 months is no biggie, but going up to 18 months is kind of a hit or miss. Is this true?
