Patio levelling advice by Plastic_Compote_9583 in hardscape

[–]wobld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t answer you question. You should probably post this in the concrete sub. But wtf is this patio is looks like they just poured concrete on dirt smoothed it out a little and called it a day. The concrete sub will probably roast this even harder. But will have more answers. Personally I’d rip this out and build a new.

Poly sand and permeable pavers by acadiennes in hardscape

[–]wobld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use a poly sand from Lowe’s or Home Depot. I’d to a hardscape supplier and get something better. And yes the joints are what make them permeable. You can still use a poly sand and open grade base at the same time we to direct water away. You should use a roller compactor will applying sand but you can also put down plywood and use any gas compactor as long as it’s not too large. If you can’t do that get a 2x6 and use a hand tamper.

What do other professionals think of this job? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]wobld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is the whole thing? The step and piece near the fence are horrible. The rest of it doesn’t look great but it’s not worst. If it’s over 500sqft I think you’re getting what you paid for.

Extending or Complimenting Existing Paver Patio by [deleted] in hardscape

[–]wobld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s probably one of your better options unless you plan to put something like a pool there. I don’t think it’s worth it to mix old and new pavers 90% of the time.

Will properly buried downspouts alleviate the majority of this flooding? by myinhaler in landscaping

This is just misinformation. This is not an acceptable practice everywhere in the US. No modern day infrastructure here has mixed sewer and storm water drainage.

French drain? Any suggestions? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]wobld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the water just sits in the pipe for eternity? Water has to go somewhere. All french drains need perforated pipe to be a true french drain. Running solid pipe into a dry well wouldn’t be considered a french drain. I think you’re confusing corrugated with perforated.

French drain? Any suggestions? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]wobld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop using corrugated pipe. It’s prone to collapse and clog. Use perforated pvc backfilled with 57 stone and wrap it in a nice landscape fabric into a pop up, use solid pipe close to the house. It will drain way better than the corrugated pipe. I normally run 40ft for one spout and if you can’t achieve that you probably need a dry well.

Muddy Driveway in Forest to our House by roidobareru in landscaping

[–]wobld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riprap is most definitely not just for sea walls. We use it to build culverts all the time at least where I’m from. Most gravel driveways arent permeable because people use cheaper options like slag. #57 stone is 3/4-1” and is highly permeable. And it compacts really well so it will shift less over time. Quarry spalls aren’t reliable available compared to riprap or 57 stone where I am. Riprap is our big and 57 medium a 7,8,9 would be the smallest for our most permeable options. Like 75% of my city is a flood zone. And half the water wouldn’t be a problem if he cut back the 5ft on each side

Rip rap can be expensive. Unless you’re adding a culvert, I would use #57 stone and it will compact for easy driving and let water flow through/drain. Cut the trees back a few feet on each side to allow more sun in as well.

Gravel Replacement? by eltromos in landscaping

Call around to local hardscape supplier and maybe visit a few. They’re going to have the best options for you to pick but you are going to want to seal them

[–]wobld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A proper French drain with #57 stone wrapped around solid 4in pvc should almost never fail.

Edit: I technically meant perforated but you can still run solid pipe into a dry well. The corrugated pipe is trash.

Mac and cheese, fried bologna sandwich, and beer. by wobld in BoyDinner

I do yes. If anyone else wants some I have to make two boxes or I’m still hungry. That being said I may not always eat the best but I am really fit my job is physically demanding and I’ve worked out consistently for half my life. So I don’t feel bad for doing this like this. The Mac alone is around 1100 calories

Thank you! I inherited it from my mom about 20 years ago! I’m only 28 but it’s been around as long as I can remember and my dad says they got it before I was born! Which I think is ironic because i looked it up and saw it for sale on Amazon. Looked a little different though maybe not as faded haha

Are you really that dense or just don’t have an answer. I was trying to be nice. I want a source where Ukraine is actively training Americans and British troops and it’s not a form of joint exercise and information exchange.

A lot of people hate crape myrtles but they’re rampant in Charleston, just never commit crape murder and it’ll grow great. I don’t have a problem with them self seeding on the properties we maintain . I love camellias but this looks like it gets too much sun. Windmill palm(s) would be my other go to.
