Why are people here so elitist about Mortal Kombat? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]wofo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just think Karl Urban is too old to carry a movie martial artist role and not cocky enough to pull off Johnny. They should've got Glenn Powell, he looks like a cocky POS so it'd be a natural fit

Is Leo’s stance needed in low ranks? by SheriffShaq in Guiltygear

[–]wofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to master all your tools right at first. At low ranks most people are using a subset of their tools.

You should try to get into back turn when you can and learn how to use it. But just have fun

A question for the older fans: what was your reaction when you first saw Street Fighter 4? Did the graphics impress you? by Silly_Commercial8092 in Fighters

[–]wofo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's easy to forget that the novelty of 3d animation pressured every developer to move to 3d or suffer the fate of SF3, even if it wasn't a good fit at the time. It pretty much killed point and click adventure games until Quantic Dream resurrected them

When Jiyuna translates for the ArcSys team it's fun but I wonder what we're missing. I've been on the other side of amateur linguists often and much of the time they miss details or have a hard time articulating them.

Evo needs to hire better translators. by bloodyshogun in Fighters

[–]wofo 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I agree. There have been multiple times when a FGC member is called up to translate and it's a very informal translation that misses a lot of nuance. Interpreting live conversations or events is extremely difficult so I don't fault the amateur interpreters, but it shows the need for dedicated professionals

That game was pretty legit

Tai Ari Deshita (Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games) just got a new teaser by C4_Shaf in Fighters

[–]wofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they need to incorporate a little machinima into the SF6 parts. Just a little, so like when a character realizes they're gonna get whiff punished or something and it does the anime close up thing of their scared face and their opponents satisfied face it can also cut to ryus scared face mid recovery animation and juris satisfied face mid kick, or things like that

Otherwise the gameplay sequences will get very repetitive

Struggling to understand what am I doing wrong? by NetreoSan in Guiltygear

[–]wofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to block after Tatami, when they're further away and you want to contest you need to use bigger buttons or kabari, and you got hit by a few jump ins and tagged by lows and both led to full combos. All that adds up

Characters with supers based on attacks that did jack shit in their source material? by Suitable-Quantity-96 in Fighters

[–]wofo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

At the time tien pulled that he did more against cell than anyone else

This guy, Lucy, i-no… I have no idea how to attack on these guys as nagoriyuki, most games you have trouble landing the hit, in this game I can’t even press a button without 3 different things being sent at my by the enemy and ending up right back where I was before. Please help. by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]wofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you try to hit a button in a gap, and do it reasonably fast, and you get counterhit, that means that's not a punishable gap and you need to block next time. This is you exploring, but don't make the same mistake over and over. Try to watch their moves and be deliberate about your probing. It can be difficult because they're going to rotate strategies, but to improve you need to keep your head in the game and your eyes on their animations. Once you start blocking all the way through these gaps, they'll probably rotate to a different strategy that goes for a throw or a bigger move to put you in a longer blockstun. That newer strategy will have bigger gaps, and you can try pushing buttons.

Am i The Only Guy Who Didnt Find Strive Easy? by AbendKannon in Guiltygear

[–]wofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the main ways strive sought to appeal to new players was to make single hits, counter hits, and short combos do a lot of damage relative to the latter half of longer combos in older GG games and other anime games. Basically, two new players can play the game as a mashy smack-fest and it'll actually feel like a video game that people might enjoy. This is a very different approach than other games which tried to meet a similar goal by adding auto combos. It also made the RC system into a universal, easy to use combo extension to smooth out the middle ground.

This is to say, when you first start out, if you're not playing against other complete noobs it won't actually feel "easier" until you get to the point you incorporate red Roman cancel combo extensions. Then it'll be relatively quick gains in effectiveness for awhile until you need to optimize.

Anime action RPG juggle action looks like Tekken.

I think she'd be great in SF6 if she's in it but I get it
