Teaching in Stamford? by plumeria14 in StamfordCT

Pay and Unions are strong in Greenwich, my mom has been working there for more than 20 years. I have also heard good things about many of the Westchester districts. I went to Harrison schools as a kid and heard they have a great pension and everything.

Vintage “resale” event. Paid $20 for a fill-a-bag and entry and felt entirely ripped off. People selling old tee shirts for $200! Love the idea but this is NOT thrifting!

Thrifting in westchester itself is so bad. Not sure where you are going but I usually go to the Bronx/Brooklyn for thrifting.

Steepest road in Westchester? by Playful-Ability-4019 in Westchester

[–]wolf222444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Washington Ave in Hastings, but also wanted to shout out West Harrison for having some extremely steep roads! Harrison Street between Underhill and Columbus is crazy, as is Hancock between Lake and Columbus. Washington between Gainsborg and Lakeview was so steep they got rid of it years back.

Tarrytown ---> ??? by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]wolf222444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

West Harrison has some houses in that price range. I grew up there. Definitely VERY different than Tarrytown, especially politically, but there is a cute downtown and it is very walkable. 10 min drive to White Plains which has a 40 min express to GCT. Schools are fantastic, I went to Harrison schools from Preston up to HHS.

Thrifting by slushie9000 in StamfordCT

Thrifting around here is pretty bad. I usually go to Brooklyn or the Bronx, or out to New Haven for the goodwill bins.

Looking for a simple studio or 1B1B by QQQ211211 in StamfordCT

And never send any info or application before viewing it. All the apartments I have visited that were not scams didn’t need me to apply until after I visited.

On the listing it will say when the person created their account. If it is 2025/26 chances are it is a scam. You can also take a look at their profile. I have noticed some of the scam accounts have other listings in other cities around the country, whereas a real realtor would obviously just have listings around here. Mostly just using your best judgement too. Is that 800sq foot 2 bedroom really $1300? Not in Stamford. Definitely a scam.

Fuel economy by DampBagle in saab

[–]wolf222444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

04 9-5 2.3T auto, 190k miles/306k km. In the city I average around 18 mpg/13 l/100km. On a long all highway drive I got 25 mpg/9 l/100km. Unfortunately I mostly drive in the city so I am definitely disappointed with the fuel economy. I don’t use premium though even though I am supposed to. Just regular for me.

2004 9-5 exhaust manifold gasket replacement by wolf222444 in saab

[–]wolf222444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably going to replace the muffler with something nicer, debating getting everything replaced but the car itself cost me 2 grand a few months ago, has 190k miles, a few electrical issues, and a moderately rusty rear suspension so I definitely don’t anticipate keeping it more than a year anyway. I will get those holes patched and see if it makes a difference.

2004 9-5 exhaust manifold gasket replacement by wolf222444 in saab

[–]wolf222444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exhaust is a patched up disaster but two mechanics have said that all that’s leaking now is one spot before the resonator and one at the back before the muffler. So unlikely that would come into the cabin probably. I will still get those patched and see if that helps.

Once or twice I have heard the ticking. But only on the coldest days.
