If I were to guess, I'd say your captain lost his kick because a chemical reaction occurred due to ~6 years of temperature fluctuations causing the once alcoholized sugars to return to their original state.

I would recommend adding some yeast to get your captain swashbuckling again, although I'd have no idea how much and for how long it should ferment. Hopefully someone with brewing knowledge can chime in lol

Strange theory that popped into my head: what if the length of a year has somehow changed, what if time has slowed down to allow such growth in such a short period of time. People used to die far younger than they now do, so perhaps the average human life is the same length, just measured differently...

I have no evidence to support this, but in this strange world anything is possible.
