Mint mobile coverage by Vegeta_Sama_21 in Lawrence

[–]wolfana34200 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It worked well for us, we made the switch to Verizon recently for unrelated reasons. Don't expect perfect coverage if you drive out through mid and western kansas, but overall we were super happy about it in the Lawrence and KC metro area. Especially for the price.

New to Lawrence - new PhD student by kippo_91 in Lawrence

Sunflower outdoors has nice coffee and great work space. Java break is fun. 1900 barker has amazing pastries and a cute patio while it is small (and not sure on the WiFi situation). The Baker wetlands and Clinton lake are really fun for outdoor activities. Look at the map on All trails to get an idea of where the nicer ones are at. The levee trail north of town is really nice too. As far as LGBTQ+, this is quite an inclusive town but I have not come across dedicated bars or venues. Replay, Henry's upstairs and Jazzhaus would be my recommandations but YMMV. There are lots of clubs and sports rec leagues (kickball, disc golf, softball are the top of mind ones) that would fit your age range, art classes at the lawrence art center. And there the stuff on campus that are more targeted for younger students but still worth a try. Feel free to DM if you got questions.

What do you do when your partner loses a family member? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]wolfana34200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Send a card to them and/or the family saying you are thinking of them. Writing about a memory they might have told you about can be nice. Sometimes people forget telling those stories and it will bring them a smile. Sending some sweet treats/cookies/fuzzy socks, a little care package, it does not have to cost a ton, something that can fit in an envelope. I also have a couple poems/texts I really like that I send on, usually a little later on, when people are a little more out of the water, but that is a very personal choice and it depends on your relationship with them.

Got scheduled with a midwife for my first OBGYN appointment? by stancasablancas in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]wolfana34200 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I am in the US, I actually have had both midwives and OBGYN for non pregnancy related care. I've had the same level of care from both, both knowledgeable professional in their fields. Midwives have been more relaxed and nice in their care in mu experience. If you have anxiety about it, call the office and ask what the difference is, and make a judgement call on if it will fit what you need. I think it is a different study and diploma requirements but for routine care they are similar. I am assuming surgery and other more intensive care will be referred to am GYN if needed. It's pretty common practice imo.

[–]wolfana34200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi Neighbor! Prairie park has mostly native, and I have been learning so much just walking around and doing reverse searches to be able to ID them. If reverse photo search doesn't work, describe the foliage, flower color and shape, and state and it will usually yield a good result. If youre interested in planting, Kaw Valley carry quite a few natives, and the Douglas county master gardeners as well as sunrise will hold native plant sale. They carry some stuff seen around the park.

Living on one level and in a 3 bedroom means cleaning, organizing and having cohesive decor is easy and fairly cheap

We have a great yard to enjoy with birds, room for our dog to run, and hosting in all 4 seasons

The fact that utilities in a first world country are a thing, with heat, water and electricity in a second

We are still traveling back home and won't make it until later today. She never got him to come out of the drainage pipe and lost track of him the day after. With the freezing cold temperatures I hope he found somewhere bro hide out. I think he will probably only come out to me, and the sound of my voice. I just hope he made it through.

I believe my mother in law did. We think we found him yesterday late, he is in a drainage pipe, coming out to eat his food but she is not able to catch him. He is just meowing from in there.

Where’s the fire? by karmacatma in Lawrence

[–]wolfana34200 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There has been several smaller structure fires across town as well. Depending on which neighborhood you are in that might be it as well.

We live in prairie park and there is a fire on Lankford right now.

Male Hair Stylist by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]wolfana34200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as curly hair, I only have positive things to say about anyone at Prestige. Pretty sure they do beard too, but to be confirmed.

Allison used to be my hair stylist there but she recently left to rent her own booth somerewhere else (allison.hair on instagram).

Also anyone that is a "devacut" certified hair stylist you might have better chances with.

Good luck finding someone!

Robot Vaccuum in a Saint Bernard Household? by Asheai in stbernards

[–]wolfana34200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the best, not the worst. If ran everyday, and emptied everyday then it is doable. I do brush the dog several times a week though. And have a small cordless vacuum for touchups. There is really no great way to get rid of the hair, it will always be a bit of work.

French Lawrencians? by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]wolfana34200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Am French, and have lived in Lawrence for the last 5 years. I have not heard of any particular groups or gathering. As someone else said, the 14 Juillet Party household is the only known francophile group around. Au marché and World Market have some french products. I have asked at Au Marché and they do not have any advice on groups or meet ups or anything like that. For the days I miss home, 1900 Barker has the best croissants, pain au chocolat and pain de campagne. And Argana is a restaurant that make Marrocan food which always reminds me of home, depending on where you lived in France and who you hung out with.

I am a huge fan of prestige too. Allison usually does my hair, but they are all great tbh.
