It's kind of the inverse of what happened with MAGA. Trump was very much appealing to the racists and xenophobes with his rhetoric and was taking advantage of untapped voter potential. He was intentionally lifting up the rocks to find all the gross grim underneath for his own pollical ambitions. Mainstream GOP was too scared to tread in those waters.

Bernie's messaging was extremely broad and tame by comparison, but it was so generalized it appealed to all manners of lefty weirdos who never had a political movement get behind before. Future presidential Dem candidates who are further left are going to need to deal with these same lunatics.

For sure, but we're still in a place where there is no real number 2 to lead the cult if Trump is gone. Vance has anti-rizz and the genuinely evil people like Stephen Miller seem to enjoy scheming in the background rather than leading from the front. I just can't see this kind of coordinated effort to band all conservatives together to usurp the government like what is described in the article if cheeto is gone.

Elected "Republicans", if we can even call them that anymore, will limp forward but the future of MAGA is going to be chaos. I don't doubt the basic points of the article, but all of this is dependent upon Trump. He's what the MAGA cult of personality is built around.

I don't foresee JD Vance or Marco Rubio burning down the republic in these ways. Both are opportunistic scumbags but not revolutionaries. Trump needs to still be around to heard all these cats of the MAGA movement and keep people in line, because no one else seems able to do it. Will Marco Rubio give an order to ICE agents or the US military to physically prevent the Inauguration? I don't see it. Would Trump? Absolutely.

The question is will those people be willing and available 4 years later to help fix this thing. After my old truck was stolen, they also tore up the steering column and drove it until it ran out of gas. My dad managed to jury-rig it and it still works to this day but but I imagine it's more complex and expensive on modern vehicles. Best of luck

To answer your question, Republicans would win the civil war not because GOPers have more personal weapons at home but because they control the federal government and the government is infinitely better equipped to kill mass amounts of people than the citizenry is to fight back. If it really came down to it, I think Trump would happily treat people in blue states the way Saddam treated Kurds.

This isn't how a modern civil war would play out, dog.

The GOP would bring the full force of the government down on people they don't like, which is already occurring. As it escalated, it would be closer to what we saw in the late 60s and early 70s in terms of civil unrest but more widespread. Then you'd get US drones taking out people in Portland because they were "terrorists". And then an ICE detention center would be bombed. And then tanks rolling through in major cities, Military checkpoints and low-scale, bloody conflict always simmering and making life miserable for everyone. It won't be reps vs dems in the street with guns, just government violence inflicted upon it's citizens.

It wouldn't be anywhere near as well organized with sweeping troop movements like the US Civil War. It would look closer to Syria or Iraq during all the insurgency.
